An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated finance professional to join the Finance department at North Bristol NHS Trust as part of a dedicated team to support the income function within the Trust, which has responsibility for c£800m of annual revenue.

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative self-starter to support the timely and accurate production of financial and activity information which requires understanding, interpretation and analysis. You will support the team to investigate and resolve queries from external and internal finance and commissioning staff and pursue corrective action in consultation with the team as well as managing the commissioner income inputs into the ledger.

Main duties of the job

Income Accountant

We are looking for an analytically minded individual with a good track record of delivering results within a large complex environment, good MS Excel skills and sound experience in the use of large datasets. Main duties will include:
  • Reporting patient level activity and income for the Trust both internally and externally to commissioners
  • Income analysis to support the wider finance team, divisions and commissioners
  • Assisting with planning and forecasting
  • Project work
  • Data manipulation and problem solving

Qualifications

Essential

  • AAT Qualified Accountant or equivalent


Desirable

  • Part qualified or studying towards a professional accountancy qualification eg ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA


Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Ability to use a full range of formulae to create spreadsheets and databases capable of recording, manipulating and analysing highly complex data and statistics
  • Experience of working under pressure to very tight deadlines is important, whilst also ensuring attention to detail, accuracy and quality of output is maintained
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive financial and reporting information to diverse audiences, both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, building positive relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders


Desirable

  • Experience of using SLAM income system
  • Experience of Oracle


Work Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within NHS Finance or similar sized organisation
  • Experience of large complex environment, along with extensive experience in ledger accounting including invoicing, reconciliations and financial systems


Desirable

  • Experience of working within the NHS for at least 1 year
  • Knowledge & understanding of Payment by Results
  • Experience of working with Commissioners
