  • Would you like to work within a team where child psychotherapy is highly valued?

This is exciting opportunity to join a vibrant multidisciplinary CAMHS team, who are working to deliver a range of psychotherapy interventions to children and young people and their families who are experiencing moderate to significant mental health difficulties.

You will be based within this team while you undertake the clinical training. You will working alongside other psychotherapists and receive high quality supervision from a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in the locality.

This is a Health Education England (South West) funded training post for a full-time Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist training placement in Devon Partnership Trust, part of Child and Family Health Devon to study for a professional doctorate. The doctoral training course undertaken must be approved by the Association of Child Psychotherapists (A.C.P).

Applications are invited for this traineeship which includes flexible funding for up to 6 years. This funding consists of a bespoke package based on where the successful applicant is on the training journey.

It can include:
  • The course fees for the 2-year pre-clinical psychoanalytic infant observation training (M7)
  • Fees for personal psychoanalysis and travel expenses with an approved training analyst
  • Doctoral course fees and travel expenses for the 4-year clinical training.
  • Employment as a Trainee Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (Band 6 WTE) in Devon CAMHS for a 4-year period.

The successful applicant would need to apply to one of the pre-clinical trainings recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists from September 2022. Those currently on, or who have already completed this course, are also welcome to apply for the traineeship.
About You
You will have at least 2 years previous experience of working with children and young people in a professional or voluntary capacity, preferably in a clinical setting and have an interest in, and some understanding of and interest in developing your psychoanalytic thinking.

On completion of the pre-clinical training, you will need to independently apply to, and be accepted onto, a professional doctorate course funded by Health Education England at one of the Training Schools accredited by the Association of Child Psychotherapists in order to proceed to the full clinical training (4 years). Progress towards becoming a trainee is not assured by being offered this post alone. It is hoped that where possible before applying for the clinical training, applicants would have begun personal analysis with an ACP approved training analyst who they will expect to continue in analysis with throughout their clinical training.
