The post holder is expected to act as a role model and provide supervision, teaching and leadership to nursing staff under the guidance of the Cardiac Catheter Suite Team Manager. The post holder should have considerable experience of working in a Cardiac Cath Lab and is responsible for the assessment of care needs and developing/implementing/evaluating programmes of care and act as a nurse practitioner as this role develops within the Trust.The post holder should have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm, organisational skills and be able to work flexibly. The post holders will be expected to continue with their own professional development. As a team leader, it is expected that the post holder will participate in activities to fully develop staff and contribute to the service planning and use of resources. The post holder may also be required to co-ordinate the running of the labs on a daily basis. The post holder will provide their department with a professional focus on clinical excellence.
Main duties of the job
General Responsibilities
Responsible for organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for cardiac patients within the department in the absence of the Manager. To work in an unsupervised senior capacity within the recovery area, pre-assessment clinics and the cardiac Cath lab. To be utilised as a resource by the ward staff concerning any aspect of cardiac procedures and individual patient care. To part take in a on call rota as the needs of the service require. To ensure accurate collection of patient data is maintained as per information governance policy. To facilitate clinical audits and research within the unit. Responsible for the ordering, stock levels and security of drugs kept in the department.

Professional Responsibilities:
To promote and maintain good working relationships within the Cath Suite and promote good communications. To assist in establishing the promotion of health and the prevention of illness. Be available, in the absence of the Manager, to deputise and take responsibility for the co-ordination of nursing care of each patient on the Cardiac Catheterisation Suite. Be responsible for the assessment of nursing needs required by patient, in conjunction with nursing observations, medical requirement and with the co-operation and partnership of the patient and their relatives. Be prepared to undertake necessary training and development in order to become a nurse practitioner as this role develops. Be responsible for the implementation of the planned programmes of care required, giving regard to the medical requirements of the patient. Be responsible for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the planned care, by daily reviewing the care being given, from reports from other nursing staff, direct observation for the patient and ensuring that accurate nursing records are maintained. When responsible, ensuring the co-ordination of the reception and discharge pathway of patients in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. Assist, in conjunction with the Matron and the Divisional Nurse, to continue to develop and set standards of care, taking into account relevant published and local research. Ensure that the skill mix of staff is appropriate for the working environment and report any deficiencies to the Matron. Participate in the selection of staff at Band 5 and below in conjunction with the Manager and Matron. To participate in Performance Review and Appraisal of staff both personally and of staff at Band 5 and below. To ensure that drugs are administered, recorded and stored in accordance with the Hospital Drug Policy. To undergo, where necessary, further training in relation to the Extended Role of the Nurse and participate in the training of others To ensure communication with paramedical services to enable them to carry out their part in patient care and to create a climate in which feedback on patient progress is the norm. To ensure that staff are aware of current changes both local and national and involve them in consultations regarding changes by contributing in regular staff meetings. Responsible for ensuring that all accidents/incidents are reported to the appropriate Manager and on the system. Responsible for ensuring that regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment is carried out, faults reported and defective equipment removed from use. To work within Hospital Trust and local policies and protocols.
