Are you passionate about older people and their mental health and dementia?

This is an exciting new role in a rapidly developing service, and we are looking to recruit a Band 8b Clinical Psychologist to work in the Southampton Division of Southern Health Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be based on Beaulieu Ward the organic inpatient ward at The Western Community Hospital Southampton. They will also have a role in the clinical leadership of OPMH within the Division which has another inpatient ward (functional) and 2 CMHTs. The service provides care to older people with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, personality disorder and psychosis, as well as for people with dementia and their carers.

The role is to provide a high level of expertise within OPMH in the Division and particularly the OPMH inpatient service. The post-holder will take clinical leadership responsibility in conjunction with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the co-ordination and implementation of psychological care and ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist psychological therapies service for patients and their families/carers, with the emphasis on coproduction. They will support the introduction and dissemination of Comprehend Cope & Connect (CCC) for those with complex psychological problems and the Newcastle Model to formulate the needs of those with organic conditions

The role will also involve providing highly specialist psychological assessments and intervention strategies including specialist neuropsychological assessment. A crucial aspect is the provision of clinical leadership, training and consultation to the OPMH clinical team who provide psychologically based care and treatment whilst also supporting the professional development of the psychological services staff including trainees on placement, ensuring appropriate supervision and governance of psychological therapies. A prime aim is to enhance the psychological mindedness of the multi professional team and promote the delivery of evidenced based psychological practice.

Southern Health provides a wide range of mental health, physical health and learning disability services for people across Hampshire. There are currently 8 other Clinical Psychologists working with older people in the Trust, 5 trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists, and 2 Assistant Psychologists. Regular clinical supervision will be provided and we also meet monthly as a group for neuropsychology supervision. There are close working relationships with Adult Mental Health Services and the University of Southampton, which is the base for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Course. There are opportunities to be involved in teaching Trainee Clinical Psychologists and for collaboration with other professionals and academic staff and participation in research. Southampton is a maritime city and sits right on the south coast and has some of the best weather in the UK. It has a rich history and is full of lively and modern art, culture, restaurants and nightclubs, it’s a safe friendly and walkable place. Southampton Division provides mental health services to the population of the city and there are exciting opportunities to develop the existing close relationships with primary care and voluntary organisations.
