This is a new permanent role created to helps us deliver our plans to transform our CAMHS services as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.

We have ambitious plans to provide young people with equitable and speedy access to mental health care across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. Our transformation plans include the co-production of a new model for community CAMHS including an integrated front door and full implementation of the Thrive approach. We will extend the mental health support provided in schools through the expansion of Mental Health Support Teams to ensure all pupils experiencing low mood, anxiety or challenging behaviour have access to a range of evidence based early interventions. We are also establishing a comprehensive crisis pathway and crisis helpline to ensure 24/7 access to dedicated, specialist support including psychiatric liaison and home treatment teams.

Main duties of the job

Haringey CAMHS MHST is an early intervention service designed to help meet the mental health needs of children and young people (CYP) in education settings. The MHST is currently based in the East of Haringey and consists of two teams. You will be joining the MHST at an exciting time, as we are due to grow to three teams and expand our reach to more schools in the area.

Our service is underpinned by principles from the MHST Manual (NHS England, 2019) and Children and Young People - Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT):
  • Value and facilitate authentic participation of young people, parents, carers and communities at all levels of the service
  • Provide evidence-based practice and are flexible and adaptive to changes in evidence
  • Are committed to raising awareness of mental health issues in children and young people, and are active in decreasing stigma around mental ill-health
  • Demonstrate that they are accountable by adopting the rigorous monitoring of the clinical outcomes of the service, and
  • Actively work to improve access and engagement with services

Person Specification Education and Qualifications Essential
  • Entry-level qualification: appropriately registered Clinical psychologist, Systemic Family Therapist, Psychotherapist, Nurse, CBT Therapist, Social Worker, Creative Therapist
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC/UKCP/RCN.
  • Trained in relevant CPD training in supporting children in education.
  • PG EMHP supervisor course.
Experience and Knowledge Essential
  • Candidates will need to be experienced Mental Health professionals and evidenced by 2 years working therapeutically/ clinically or consultatively within a CYP Education or Mental Health Setting with children and young people with mental health difficulties
  • You must demonstrate experience of clinically delivering and supervising in the therapeutic approach for which you are applying e g CBT)
  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in CAMHS.
  • Experience of leadership within a CAMHS setting.
  • Experience of working with an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with the EMHP/ CWP training program.
Skills and Abilities Essential
  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised therapies for child and adolescents
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychosocial theories of mental health and the evidence base for the relevant treatment.
  • Advanced knowledge of mental health assessments.
  • Experience of working in diverse settings.
  • Liaison with internal and external organisations

  • Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma.
  • Ability to manage verbal aggression and hostility directed at self.
