An exciting opportunity has arisen for aforward thinking, enthusiastic, and motivated Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Neurology Long Term Conditions Service at Breightmet Health Centre. The post involves work with patients with neurological impairment, Long covid and ME/CFS, with the possibility to rotate through stroke services in the future.

The role is within the Neurology LTC service based at Breightmet Health Centre. The post holder will be part of a friendly and dynamic MDT working closely to provide collaborative care and specialist Occupational Therapy treatment, intervention and advice.

The service actively encourages training and staff development supported by experienced senior staff.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the neurology LTC, long covid and ME/CFS service supported by highly specialist therapists.
  • To perform therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
  • To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To provide clinical education, advice and support for junior therapy staff and support staff.
  • To provide highly specialist knowledge, skills and advice to clients, and be a source of expertise for therapy staff, other members of the MDT and other agencies.
  • To supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy students.
  • To contribute to service research and audit activities.
  • To propose any service changes within own professional speciality area.

You will be required to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users, which could include participation in a weekend rota and may cross cover other services including the Stroke therapy team if required

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • OT degree
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence CPD / post grad training in specialist area
  • Clinical educators course / supervise students


Desirable

  • Membership of appropriate professional body
  • Membership of professional special interest group


Experience

Essential

  • Broad range of clinical experience prior to specialising.
  • Experience working within neurology/neurorehabilitation/stroke (Acute and /or community) with practitioners from own or other professions who are experienced in this area.
  • Experience of managing a caseload of neurological clients with complex needs.
  • Experience of effective team working
  • experience of supervising junior staff / students
  • Experience working in NHS


Desirable

  • Experience of treating patients who do not speak English or have barriers to communication
  • participation in clinical audit

  • Ability to use and apply Assessment and treatment with patients with neurological impairment

  • Knowledge of recent NHS & Trust developments and their impact on the service
