  • The post holder will be expected to lead the multi disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality
  • To work weekdays with occasional weekends and / or night duty to monitor the quality of the service throughout a 24 hour period
  • To provide specialised training for staff regarding the management of neonatal loss.
  • To act as a role model and mentor abiding by the values and behaviours of the organisation, promoting excellence through practice


Main duties of the job

  • Act as a clinical specialist to bereaved families
  • Remain up to date as an experienced clinical nurse required to undertake clinical nursing duties in caring for bereaved families.
  • Be a resource for medical nursing and midwifery staff on physical, psychological and administrative aspects of neonatal bereavement.
  • Liaise with the lead nurse for bereavement services and chaplaincy
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical examiner, chaplains, bereavement nurse, mortuary officer, neonatal pathologist, histology and staff at the University Hospital of Wales site mortuary.
  • Give specialist advice to doctors and nurses on specific aspects of bereavement care
  • Be available to give practical support and help either by telephone or in person to members of staff at all levels
  • Ensure that the University Health Board's arrangements for responding to the religious and cultural needs of families are met

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Nursing Degree

  • Coaching or counselling qualification


Experience

  • Substantial clinical experience in neonates
  • Neonatal QIS qualification

  • Previous experience of supporting bereaved families
