An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) in Neurosurgery. The post will be based within the Neurosurgery Department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with specific focus upon the Functional Neurosurgery service.
The successful candidate will be employed via the apprenticeship route and will spend 80% of their training within the clinical setting, with the remaining 20% attributed to undertaking a Masters Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice with City University London.
Given that this post is via the apprenticeship route, the post is a three year fixed term contract. On successful completion of both academic and clinical training, the Trainee ACP will be in a position to apply for a qualified ACP post. Completion of the apprenticeship is a mandatory element of this role.
The Neurosurgery team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust provide the Neurosurgery service for North West London and are located at both the St Mary's (SMH) and Charing Cross (CXH) sites. As the Functional Neurosurgery service is predominantly focused at CXH the role will primarily be based at this site, but will also require the successful candidate to work at SMH to ensure a range of learning opportunities, skills and experience.
This role has been developed to ensure high quality continuity of care for Functional Neurosurgery patients within the service, liaising closely with both the Neurosurgery and Neurology teams. This post encompasses acute neurosurgery within the Trust and beyond to the North West London network, coordinating the care of both cranial and spinal neurosurgery patients but with a primary focus being on the Functional Neurosurgery cohort.
The successful candidate will work with both inpatients and outpatients under the care of the Functional Neurosurgery service as well as the wider Neurosurgery patient cohort. A large proportion of the role involves the facilitation of urgent admissions and investigations for Functional Neurosurgery patients, together with organisation of interventions and treatment during their inpatient stay, and coordination of follow up care. Patient/relative enquiries and expectations must be managed seamlessly. The candidate must therefore have excellent communication and time management skills, work well within a multidisciplinary team, and also provide effective leadership when appropriate. Supporting and guiding our multi-professional colleagues in the management of Functional Neurosurgery patients through educational delivery is another key aspect. Furthermore, whilst the role necessitates exemplary multidisciplinary working, an element of autonomous practice is also required, with the continued support of the Neurosurgery team.
The role will require a range of shift patterns including nights and weekends.
The post is open to Nursing and Allied Health Care Professionals with current NMC/HCPC/GPhC registration. Applicants should have been qualified for a minimum of five years with experience at band 6 as a minimum. Evidence of a minimum of two year clinical Neurosurgical practice (or associated area) is essential. Additionally, an understanding of the tACP role and programme is paramount.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a fast paced department with high acuity patients. They should embrace new challenges and integrate effectively in an exciting and innovative multidisciplinary workforce.
