The successful candidate will deliver an effective, high quality service to adults aged 16+ with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (in the absence of a learning disability) and their families/carers.

This post will involve assessing the needs of people with a pre-existing diagnosis (from childhood or another service), making recommendations and signposting to relevant support pathways (both within SAANS and through local services). it will also include providing advice and training to carers and relevant professionals regarding the care and support of people with ASD.

Main duties of the job

To undertake initial re-assessments of need for new referrals to the team.

To provide advice, signposting and referral on for clients with Autism Spectrum disorder and their families/carers.

To liaise with other services in order to identify appropriate care pathways.

To provide information regarding ASD to service users, families/carers and other services.

To support with the delivery of psychoeducational and/or therapeutic groups for people with autistic spectrum disorder.

To work independently according to a plan agreed with the Clinical Lead and the Team Manager and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

To complete clinically related administration, collection of statistics as appropriate.

Job purpose

This post will involve assessing the needs of people with a pre-existing diagnosis (from childhood or another service), making recommendations and signposting to relevant support pathways (both within SAANS and through local services). It will also include providing advice and training to carers and relevant professionals regarding the care and support of people with ASD.

General requirements

To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post-holders professional and service manager(s).

To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology/psychological therapy across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal, and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology/psychological therapy and related disciplines.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the HCPC, BABCP, BPS and Trust policies and procedures.

To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues.

To attend and contribute to relevant professional meetings.

To develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues within Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust and in the statutory and voluntary services with the aim of promoting high standards of care and clinical practice

To maintain professional registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (or equivalent registration for your relevant professional body).

Person Specification Training and Qualifications Essential
  • Post-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology
  • Registration with the HCPC
Skills and knowledge and experience in ASD Essential
  • Experience of working with Adults with autism
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of working with highly complex clients
Communication and MDT working Essential
  • An ability to interact positively and effectively with staff from all disciplines.
  • Ability to interact with ease with people who have autism and their families
  • Ability to liaise with other services and seek out appropriate information
