We have an opportunity for a part-time (21.4 hours per week) Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist in our Children's Physiotherapy Team, and we would like you to join us, if you have the skills! You will join our well-established Children's Physiotherapy service which supports children aged 0-19 years and will work in providing support to the Children's Physiotherapy department and community settings across Sunderland and South Tyneside. You will be a key part of our service and will have opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills. You will be predominantly based at our South Tyneside site located within Palmer Community Hospital Jarrow, providing care across both Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. As a team we work together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and be part of a wider Children's Integrated Therapy Service team, too. You will be keen to support services as we change and develop. You will align to our vision and values to improve patient outcomes and develop our workforce.

Main duties of the job

You will be based within Palmer Community Hospital, Jarrow, as part of our Children's Physiotherapy team that covers South Tyneside and Sunderland. You will be integral in developing the service to and providing support into the Physiotherapy department and across all community settings. You will be responsible for a wide and varied caseload. You will have knowledge and experience within Paediatrics including all musculoskeletal conditions/presentations to babies and children with complex presentations. You will have knowledge of Paediatric assessment tools and the Bobath approach. You will have some experience of the Education Health and Care Plans (Children and Families Act 2014), have been involved with report writing and associated meetings. You will have experience and a working knowledge of safeguarding. You will have knowledge and understanding of CPIPs and have the ability to work both within a Physiotherapy team, MDT and the wider Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a large team across our patch with other specialist clinicians. You will participate in, and be integral to, the clinical supervision, training and education of all staff, including students. You will be required to meet the travel requirements of this Post.

Job responsibilities

To work as a highly specialist physiotherapist using advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide Trust-wide physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and advice to a varied caseload of clients including those who present with musculoskeletal and complex neurological conditions. Practise will incorporate collaborative working with and guiding junior physiotherapy staff.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience within Paediatric physiotherapy incorporating experience within a range of specialisms within Paediatric physiotherapy.
  • Awareness of the range of relevant standardised formal and informal assessments and therapy approaches for client groups within this specialist service area.
  • Experience of supervising all levels of qualified Physiotherapy staff, assistants and students.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training and education programmes to other professionals/students/ parents.
  • Training and experience in staff and student supervision.


Desirable

  • Some management/leadership experience.
  • Experience in the use of, and interpretation of, the relevant standardised formal and informal assessments and therapy approaches for client groups within this specialist service areas.
  • Some experience of policy / practice development in specialist area.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of extensive CPD and up-to-date knowledge within Paediatrics achieved through:
  • post-graduate/specialist/advanced short courses.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
  • Knowledge of some specialist assessment tools relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy.
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic assessments and interventions & an ability to compare & contrast relative benefits.
  • Knowledge of the structure and functioning of the NHS, and how the Trust fits into the wider picture.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit/ research.
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals & the principles of partnership-working with key stake-holders.
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping and ability to monitor and audit this in own team.


Desirable

  • Member of APCP or other Paediatric SIG.
  • Knowledge of national and local policies & procedures relevant to health, social services & education and areas of responsibility.
  • Attendance at management and leadership training to include, and not exhaustive of, short courses on a range of management and HR issues.
