Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and dynamic nurse to join the Managed Care team as a charge nurse. Our service offers the opportunity to work and develop in a supportive and friendly nurse led environment.

Managed Care Unit is a medical nurse led treatment centre which offers biologic treatments and other medical infusions to patients with autoimmune and long-term medical conditions. We administer Iron infusions, blood transfusions and monitor patients with chronic anaemia

Non oncology Cyclophosphamide treatments are also administered to patients with chronic auto immune conditions.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We are looking for an individual who is passionate, caring, compassionate, takes initiative, who is innovative and enthusiastic. We would like an excellent leader with experience of leading teams and with the ability to help shape a new service for the future.

You will work in a busy nurse led environment taking charge of the unit, supervising and supporting other staff. You will act as a role model, demonstrating clinical expertise and assisting in the day to day management and organisation of the service.

You will be responsible for the overall smooth running and flow of the unit ensuring the timely treatment of patients.

You will assess and escalate deteriorating patients to the appropriate teams and ensure that patients are treated promptly when experiencing adverse drug reactions.

Working in a large multidisciplinary team within specialist medicine, you will be required to have excellent communication skills.

We operate during the day from 07:30-20:00 hours on a shift pattern of early shift 07:30-15:30 and late shift 12:00-20:00. Monday to Friday .

We are closed on weekends and bank holidays.

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
  • Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Experience in handling adverse events and complaints
  • Appraisal skills
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
  • Some insight into budget management
