A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Practice Development Team at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton as the Clinical Educator. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Paediatric Nurse who is keen to share their paediatric nursing expertise.
The post holder will be part of a dynamic and innovative Paediatric Practice Development team. They will responsible for facilitating nursing and multi-professional staff development within the Children's Hospital. They will work closely with members of the team supporting them to provide excellent care in the clinical areas. As part of the Practice Development Team, they will be involved in delivering high quality internal training programmes.
The post holder will be an expert in the assessment, planning and implementation of all areas of paediatric care. They will work as part of the Practice Development team to ensure competence of all staff to maintain excellent standard of care is delivered in the department.
The post holder will be required to work predominately on weekdays and mainly based in the clinical environment. You will be supported by the Paediatric Practice Development Lead to further develop your skills and knowledge in clinical education.
We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.
Main duties of the job
Teaching and supporting nursing staff to develop their skills in clinical area, to ensure that they meet their competencies to deliver a high standard of care for the sick children and young people within the Children's Hospital. Create a positive learning environment that promotes staff continued professional development. Influence and implement the education strategy within the Children's Hospital, and be at the forefront of nurse education and workforce development.

Work closely with the Practice Development lead as well as Department leads to ensure good communication between teams. Develop relationship with clinical staff working within the departments to foster development and opportunities for education and supervision.
Acknowledge different levels of knowledge and skills of staff when providing advice and negotiating on educational / professional development issues. Identifies clear benefits, goals and processes for developing knowledge, ideas and work practices and communicates these effectively.
Provide effective written and verbal feedback on performance using tact and diplomacy, handling sensitive and confidential information as per Data Protection and Trust guidelines. To appropriately challenge poor practice sensitively, escalating and documenting as required.
To competently demonstrate clinical and mentorship skills with underpinning knowledge whilst establishing rapport with the learners.
Attend regular meetings within the trust, division, University links and liaise with the PDN. Network with other educational development and training teams within the trust and with the paediatric networks. Ensure that effective communication is maintained with all work-related teams, patients and relatives.

Qualifications / Experience

- NMC registration RCN/RN with substantial paediatric experience
- Educated to degree level
- Experience of clinical teaching and/or supporting learners in practice
- Significant experience working in Paediatrics
- Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor / Mentorship Module or equivalent
- Demonstrates specialist paediatric expertise underpinned by theory
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
