Safari ward is a 24 bedded general paediatric ward which includes a 4 bedded level 2 HDU unit and a 4 bedded oncology shared care poscu. We look after children from 0-16years with general medical and surgical conditions. We take admissions from Paediatric ED, Hippo assessment unit and step down from PICU in tertiary centres. We also offer daycase procedures.

Main duties of the job
This person must like a challenge, respond well to the demands of a busy ward and enjoy working at a fast pace in a multidisciplinary team including consultants, Nurses, Play workers, Practice Development Nurses, Ward Sister and Matron.
The department encourages and supports professional development including extended nursing skills, study modules at university and in-house study days such as the long term ventilation, Venepuncture & Cannulation and the high dependency course
We offer an accredited preceptorship programme for newly qualfiied staff and have 2 practice development nurses on hand to support you.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the nurse managers in providing high quality care. He / she will be prepared to work within the divisions as a Named Nurse, within a Team taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
You will be expected to take a patient caseload of 4-5 patient's depending on acuity and to time manage and prioritise tasks accordingly
The post holder will be a clinically credible practitioner who can provide effective patient care in a range of clinical settings, having regard for relevant policies and the evidence base nursing

- RSCN or RN Child
- Current NMC registration
- Significant general paediatrics experience
- BLS within last year
- Functioning at minimum diploma level.

- PILS provider
Experience

- Good written & verbal communication skills.
- Ability to document legibly and Precisely

- Previous experience of working with children and family.
- Competent in IV drug administration
