An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Sheffield Vascular Nurse Specialist team. This is full-time permanent AFC Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Vascular role covering South Yorkshire Vascular services.

We are looking for a forward-thinking nurse who is experienced in caring for patients with Vascular concerns and ready to work in specialist practice. This specialist role will be managing patients within the agreed scope of practice and taking responsibility for continuity of care.

This role includes examining and assessing patients often with highly complex or chronic conditions, planning and implementation of care, working within nurse led clinics and comprehensive follow up services and ensuring a smooth transition for patients through the relevant pathway.

Main duties of the job

To support the Senior Vascular Nurse Specialist and Vascular Surgeon in the provision of appropriate, high quality care to patients with vascular disease.

To deliver a holistic, high quality service that reflects current clinical practice and critical thinking utilising the most appropriate model of care and evidence based practice.

Work in partnership with other professionals and other organisations to enable patients to be maintained in an appropriate environment, thus avoiding hospital admission.

To work closely with other clinicians and specialists in order to ensure high quality, seamless care for each patient.

To act as a source of expert advice and information to patients, carers and relatives facilitating areas.

To contribute to the development and delivery of educational programmes delivered to nursing and non-nursing colleagues.

To work across South Yorkshire covering Vascular services primarily at the Northern General Hospital but also providing inpatient support and clinics at Barnsley District General and Rotherham District General.

The ability to drive is essential in order to carry out all elements of the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st level Registration NMC
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent work based experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Evidence of level 6 study


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable post registration experience
  • Organisational awareness
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, crossing professional and organisational boundaries
  • Experience of working in a busy and demanding specialty and able to prioritise and reprioritise workload throughout the day and week
  • Ability to work within defined timescales


Desirable

  • Existing band 6 experience
  • Vascular experience
  • Wound care experience


Training

Essential

  • An up to date knowledge of local and national developments in nursing, medical practice and policies
  • Computer literacy skills including knowledge of databases, power point, word processing and patient record systems


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to provide care with compassion, commitment and competence.
  • Developed interpersonal skills with excellent standards of communication
  • Understanding of patients needs and providing care whilst maintaining dignity.
  • An understanding of the need to accept responsibility for own actions and ensure accuracy & attention to detail
  • Understanding of the NMC and accountability.
  • Ability to work as part of small team and maintain continuity of services.
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the patients and the Department
  • Ability to work on own with remote access to supervision
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role
