Do you enjoy supporting your colleagues and helping them develop their clinical skills?

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward-thinking community team, working as an integral part of our management team managing a team of 10 to 20 SLTs in the East locality of Birmingham for 12 months to cover a maternity leave. You will also be working in mainstream and special schools .

This is an opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills contributing to developing a Balanced System in Birmingham in order to improve and advocate for services tochildren with SLCN

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and support of a team of SLT staff comprising of bands 4 to 7
  • You will develop strong and effective working relationships with colleagues using highly developed interpersonal skills
  • You will apply BCHC Trust policies regarding staff management with fairness and compassion.

Job description

Job responsibilities

See JD for detail, key duties include:
  • Supporting the Professional Leads and Service Clinical Manager in the development and implementation of an appropriate training programme for members of the team across the locality, using information from appraisals and personal development plans
  • Managing staff performance/disciplinary matters within the designated team, with support from the Service operational manager
  • Taking a role in the local implementation and monitoring of clinical supervision/ practice support systems in line with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assisting the Service Clinical Manager and Professional Leads in the recruitment, selection, and induction of staff, as required.
  • Participating in the development of clinical protocols for use within the Service.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oFirst degree level qualification, relevant to service area
  • oHCPC Licence to practice
  • oFull Membership of Professional body , relevant to service area
  • oEvidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
  • oRelevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory-Integration, neurological rehabilitation
  • oRelevant training in clinical leadership


Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings
  • oExtensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays
  • oSignificant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
  • oRelevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
  • oSignificant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals


Skills

Essential

  • oKnowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area
  • oCompetent in using electronic systems relevant to practice in the Trust and in the clinical area
