An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Safeguarding Serviceat Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Safeguarding Specialist Nurse.

The post holder will be a compassionate, accountable individual who treats all colleagues, patients and service users with respect and seeks to deliver excellence in their role. They will share the Trust values and be committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.

The post holder will be a key member of the team supporting the Trust in meeting its statutory and legal safeguarding responsibilities. The team members are compassionate, supportive, dynamic and forward thinking making it a fantastic team to be part of.

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative.We would welcome applications from individuals with significant safeguarding experience , a sound knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children and adults.

Hours are currently 30 hours per week, however we are expecting this to be increased to full time.

Main duties of the job

The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse will be responsible for supporting community staff with complex safeguarding cases through safeguarding advice supervision and training. Other aspects of the role will include health contribution in the Sheffield Safeguarding Hub and Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) advice and support to community staff with legal statements for Care Proceedings and contribution to safeguarding audits and reviews.

The Safeguarding Specialist Nurse will provide support, direction, scrutiny, professional challenge and escalation as required.The role involves regular input into the Sheffield Safeguarding Hub, sharing health information appropriately to assist with screening of safeguarding concerns contributing to multi-agency discussion and decision-making .

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist will act as a key decision maker for Health in different aspects of multi-agency work.

Safeguarding Nurse Specialists are required to attend relevant meetings within and outside the Trust as agreed by the Community Named Nurse.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications & Training

    Essential

    • NMC Registered
    • Registered Nurse with SCPHN qualification: School nursing/Health visiting or equivalent
    • Ongoing professional development - includes safeguarding
    • Safeguarding supervision qualification, or equivalent
    • Leadership and management training or equivalent


    Desirable

    • Master's degree - includes safeguarding or working towards
    • Post graduate safeguarding training
    • Community Specialist practitioner


    Experience

    Essential

    • Significant post registration experience as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse or equivalent and substantial recent experience in safeguarding children and adults.
    • Experience safeguarding supervision delivery or willingness to develop knowledge and skills required to deliver effective restorative safeguarding supervision


    Desirable

    • Experience of Leading a Team
    • Experience/involvement in undertaking safeguarding reviews
    • Experience of teaching, mentoring and facilitating professional development of staff.


    Knowledge

    Essential

    • Knowledge of statutory guidance and legislation regarding protection of children and adults
    • Awareness of the complex issues involved when working across organisations and disciplines


    Desirable

    • Experience /knowledge of Government initiatives in respect of children with disabilities and looked after children
    • Participation/involvement in safeguarding reviews and learning lessons to improve practice
