Digital change within the NHS is gathering pace, and a key component in enabling and embedding change across an Integrated Care System (ICS) is the Data Engineering discipline. The team work closely with a variety of clinicial and operational teams, as well as their data science and engineering counterparts across the ICS and use their detailed domain knowledge to develop solutions that create positive impact in the system and for the population.
The role will be working in the Dorset Intelligence and Insight Service (DiiS).
The technologies used by the team are diverse, and the post holder should be prepared to use the right tool for the job. The type of skills relevant to the role are (but not limited to) SQL, Azure, DevOps, GitHub.
The work of the team is broad and varied, and in an ever-changing health and social care landscape a pragmatic and flexible attitude is essential. The team supports the DiiS analyst and data science team as well as other analysts and engineers within our ICS partners. The post holder will get involved in all areas of the team's work, and continuously inspect, adapt, and evolve.
The post holder will be required to learn new skills, to innovate, to get involved in projects large and small, and contribute to the future direction of the team and how it operates.
Main duties of the job
Working within the Dorset Intelligence & Insight Service (DiiS) you will be instrumental in the design and delivery of Dorset's approach to population analytics and the underlying data engineering that supports it. You will be working collaboratively with system stakeholders ensuring that data engineering programme plans are developed, maintained, and delivered.
This role represents an excellent opportunity for development with a huge scope to really make a difference to the way we deliver services in Dorset and to hugely impact outcomes for patients. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a confident, flexible, pro-active and responsive approach combined with the resilience to deal with shifting priorities and demands.

- Design, build, test, modify and maintain data pipelines and data stores creating complex or Large -scale data products.
- Create new datasets through the manipulation of multiple data sources.
- Make effective use of development practices such as version control, unit testing, planning, DevOps, etc.
- Participate in refinement and planning sessions.
- Write review and maintain detailed system documentation.
- Develop expertise in data profiling, locally used applications, systems, platforms, and reporting tools and share your knowledge with others.
- Effectively communicate to and between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
