This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to develop neurological physiotherapy skills, working across 2 teams, spinal injuries therapy service and Neuroscience Out- Patient Physiotherapyteamwithin the Neuroscience and spinal care collaborative. The post holder will be employed as a Senior Physiotherapist and will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and experience in the respiratory and rehabilitation management of spinal injury patients and managing out patients with neurological conditions. The post holder may be required to complete domiciliary visits to facilitate discharges, training or therapy input. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills within the management of patients throughout the rehabilitation journey post spinal cord injury and within the neurological outpatient setting. The post involves working as part of the integrated MDT team, liaising with external services and families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based in 2 services
  • The Golden Jubilee Regional Spinal Injury Centre at The James Cook University Hospital which has a well-established, progressive and dynamic Therapy Service that continues to develop and grow with the Trust.
  • The Neuroscience Out- Patient Physiotherapy team works across both The James Cook University Hospital and Redcar Primary Care Hospital which have well-established, large, progressive and dynamic Physiotherapy Services that continue to develop and grow with the Trust.
The teams are friendly and supportive and mentorship for this role will be available from the Senior Specialist Physiotherapists and Therapy Service Lead. This post offers development in clinical and leadership skills. We have a comprehensive training programme and our staff are encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops and clinical supervision. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research. As a Senior Physiotherapist you will be encouraged to develop your skills and to supervise assistants and more junior staff and be involved in the clinical education of students. This post is suitable for Physiotherapists with significant postgraduate experience and an interest in neurological physiotherapy enabling them to build on their core skills developed as a physiotherapist.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Theoretical knowledge and applied clinical practice in a broad range of clinical areas. (Both)
  • In-depth knowledge of neurological conditions. (Neuro OPD)
  • Demonstrates clinical reasoning skills (Both)
  • Evidence of audit and participation in service development (Both)
  • Evidence of MDT working (Both)
  • Good understanding of the structure, policies, priorities and format of the NHS (Both)
  • Fluent in written and verbal English (Both)
  • Knowledge of relevant national guidelines and standards (Both)


Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • To hold a Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy (Both)
  • To be registered as an Physiotherapist and fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (Both)
  • To be committed to continuing professional development (Both)


Desirable

  • Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days) (Both)


Experience

Essential

  • Can demonstrate relevant/ varied post graduate experience managing a variety of neurological conditions (Both)
  • Evidence of supervision of students or therapy assistants (Both)
  • Experience at managing patients with a spinal cord injury (Spinal Injuries Unit)
  • Experience working within the NHS (Both)
  • Can demonstrate relevant/varied post-graduate experience across a variety of clinical areas (Both)


Desirable

  • Experience within respiratory care (SIU)
