Band 6 Rotational Respiratory Physiotherapist

We have exciting opportunities for a fixed term contract or secondment within our adult respiratory physiotherapy rotation. One is for two years, the other for six months

This post is part of a cross site rotation at both QMC and City campus covering a broad spectrum of rotations, including adult Critical Care and high dependency areas, Cardiothoracics and Cardiology, Upper GI and Colorectal Surgery, HPB, Vascular, Urology, Max Fax, Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Medicine.

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is passionate about respiratory physiotherapy and rehabilitation. You must be committed to developing your own respiratory skills as well as participating in the delivery of in-service training to junior physiotherapists and the wider MDT. You will be expected to be an active part of the team's service development projects, ensuring our patients receive high quality, evidence based, and patient centred care. You will support the leadership team with the day to day running of the service and in creating a culture where team members can fulfil their potential in a safe and inclusive environment.

You must have completed all core junior rotations, including at least one acute respiratory rotation.

The role also requires you to be an active member of the on call, bank holiday and weekend rotas, and work flexibly until 9pm to support the late shift at City Campus.

Main duties of the job

Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assessing and treat patients as appropriate in the relevant areas
  • Working as part of multidisciplinary teams in all clinical areas.
  • Providing supervision to more junior staff (including Band 5, support workers and students)
  • Deputising for Band 7's as appropriate
  • Working flexibly - including late shifts (City Campus only), weekends and out of hours rotas
  • Working alongside the band 7's and seniors in the team to develop the service in line with evidence based practice
  • Supporting student placements within the team and provide formal and informal training
  • Providing a supportive and learning environment for team members, including undertaking annual appraisals and supporting health and wellbeing.
  • Leading by example ensuring that NUH's values and behaviours are embedded in everyday practice.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH.

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, working together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists and prosthetists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

Job responsibilities

This post will allow a physiotherapist with a keen interest in acute respiratory inpatient care to expand their clinical skills in a busy and responsive service. Our focus on high quality rehabilitation, promoting excellent patient centred care and supporting patient flow is embedded within our dynamic daily practice and supported by positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Two year fixed term contract/secondment
  • 37.5 hours Band 6 post
  • Core hours are worked Monday to Friday
  • Additional duties will include participation in on call and weekend working as well as a late shift rota (1-9PM). These are rostered approximately 1-2 per month but may increase depending on clinical need.
