Senior Improvement Partner, Continuous Improvement Team

We are seeking an energetic, flexible and self-motivated individual to join the Trust's Continuous Improvement Team. UHBW is deploying the Patient First management operating system, our approach to transforming hospital services and delivering our trust strategy using continuous improvement methodology.

The successful candidate will have:

A proven track record in designing delivering successful service improvement projects and programmes.

Significant experience in delivering training and providing coaching in improvement tools, methodologies and mindset.

Experience of designing quality improvement and other improvement training and coaching programmes.

Main duties of the job

Key result areas:

o Supporting the Head of Improvement to design, deploy, embed and sustain the Patient First management operating system throughout all divisions, and ensuring a continuous improvement approach to achieving the desired maturity.

o Provide operational management of the Improvement Partners and deputies to ensure the delivery of the Strategy Deployment to divisions through the Patient First Management Operating System

o Effective coaching and support to clinical staff and operational teams to plan, develop and deliver improvement projects and programmes that will transform patient care and patient experience through enhanced quality of services delivered at best value.

o Building of continuous improvement capability across the organisation by ensuring required training, coaching and support are available for staff in the Patient First tools, methodologies, mindset and culture.

o Effective building of the competencies of the Continuous Improvement Team to be able to train, coach and support staff in improvement, project management and change management methodologies and the deployment of Patient First throughout the organisation.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Educated to master's level or equivalent knowledge skills and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Quality Improvement and/or Lean Six Sigma qualification and/or training
  • Training qualification and/or training with significant equivalent experience
  • Coaching qualification and/or training with significant equivalent experience


Desirable

  • PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience of, and demonstrable achievement in, leading improvement and change in a complex environment
  • Delivered demonstrable and sustainable improvements in quality, cost, delivery and staff experience through applying improvement tools and techniques to a variety of operations
  • Experience of project management from initial design to completion
  • Experience of training staff and supporting training, education and development opportunities
  • Experience of facilitating group discussions
  • Experience of designing suitable key performance indicators, metrics and analysing results so that they are meaningful to all staff
  • Demonstrable ability to lead multiple improvement initiatives focussing on complex processes
  • Experience of effectively handling multiple, sometimes competing agendas, meeting challenging deadlines and delivering under pressure
  • Experience of managing project teams
  • Knowledge and experience of change management concepts and methodologies
  • Knowledge of health care reform agenda, national health policy context and the complexities of an acute hospital
  • Experience of using formalised coaching methods
  • Experience of team leadership and management

  • Strong experience of, and demonstrable achievement in, leading improvement and change in a complex environment in a healthcare environment


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to empathise with, motivate, and persuade teams not directly managed to different viewpoints in order to achieve positive outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills to analyse complex processes and systems problems using a wide range of data, to draw conclusions, develop practical and workable solutions to address them and present to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to undertake thorough risk assessments and options appraisals
  • Ability to produce and implement project and programme plans
  • Ability to use Quality Improvement and/or Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies to analyse problems and identify solutions to address
  • Able to engage, challenge, lead and influence clinicians, managers and other staff to adopt new working practices
  • Able to relate to and communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels of the organisation, with clear and effective presentations skills, both oral and written including report writing, and adapt the communication style depending on stakeholder
  • Skills to mentor, educate and train staff in new ways of working and aspects of service redesign
  • Able to use various software to develop and create reports templates documents and posters
