We have an exciting opportunity to appoint to a full time, permanent Clinical Midwifery Educator role. The successful candidate will support our preceptorship midwives during their transition period from newly qualified midwives to band 6 midwives.
The post holder will be required to act as a positive role model, working closely with the recruitment lead midwife, professional development lead midwife and the preceptorship midwives. The successful candidate will be required to work alongside the preceptorship midwives in all clinical areas, supporting them across a full range of shifts to consolidate their knowledge and clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must be able to work flexibly in all clinical settings and possess all the skills required of a band 6 midwife, including a mentorship qualification.
You will work alongside the preceptorship midwives supporting them in clinical assessments, decision making skills, clinical skills such as cannulation, suturing, intravenous medication administration and emergency procedures.
You will be required to work flexibly to support the midwives and the needs of the service whilst enhancing the preceptorship support package in place, working in partnership with the LMNS and key organisational stakeholders.

- Ensure a culture of ongoing learning for all midwives
- In conjunction with ward managers, midwifery matrons and practice development midwife plan individual training needs/competency assessments for midwives in their first year of professional practice.
- Contribute proactively to the womens directorate and organizational planning for the training needs of the midwifery workforce.
- In conjunction with the recruitment and retention lead midwife monitor the provision of preceptorship for the midwifery workforce at CHFT.
- Take a lead clinical role in the support of midwives in their first eighteen months of clinical practice undergoing skills training, providing advice, guidance and feedback until the trainee reaches competency
- To assist in the delivery of clinical skills training to Registered Practitioners in maternity services
- To work clinically with midwives during their preceptorship period to develop their clinical skills & knowledge at ward level and to achieve recognised competencies.
- Create robust communication networks for practice learning between the clinical educators, professional development midwife and ward managers.
- Present a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic role model, providing leadership guidance and advice on strategic, operational and professional issues.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
