Eating Disorders Nurse Practitioner Band 6 - £32,306 - £39,027 per annum plus 5% fringe allowance (Band 5 developmental role is also available) Full Time - 37.5 hours per week Base - Pitsea - South West Essex

The Essex Adult Eating Disorders Service is currently expanding to enable delivery of FREED (First episode Rapid Early intervention for Eating Disorders, see https://freedfromed.co.uk/), alongside their existing service. This post is designed to support this extended remit. The service covers the whole of the county of Essex and the postholder will be expected to support the FREED project in the South West of the county as well as carry a caseload in other parts of the Service.

The post holder works under the overall supervision of the FREED Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialists, but is required to undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. In addition, the post holder will be expected to engage in considerable liaison with primary care colleagues and other staff both within and outside EPUT. The postholder will demonstrate good leadership skills whilst ensuring robust standards of care are in place, including physical, mental health and social needs ensuring theses are implemented and evaluated.

Patients, relatives, carers and other staff will find the post holder flexible, approachable, helpful and co-operative with other staff, upholding the ethos of EPUT of good customer care with an awareness of own attitude at all times.

Main duties of the job

  • Inform the Ward Sister/Ward Charge Nurse on all breaches of nursing professional conduct, as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct
  • Have a sound knowledge/understanding of the legislation as part of the role of the Registered Mental Health Nurse, including Mental Health Act 1983, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Access to Information Act 1991, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and CPA.
  • In association with Anglia Ruskin University and University of Essex, ensure the learning environment for all nurses in training is appropriate and that teaching areas comply with all N.M.C. Regulations.
  • Ensure that clinical practice is evidence-based wherever possible and participate in research and audit
  • Following any complaint / accident of serious incident ensure that appropriate documentation is fully completed in line with Trust Policy and Procedures.
  • Be responsible for updating own knowledge of contemporary psychiatry and a commitment to continuing own personal and career development, in line with Trust Appraisal and Development Policy and N.M.C. guidelines and requirements with regards to revaildation.
  • Attend training as provided and be responsible for keeping self up to date at all times with mandatory training.
  • Keep oneself updated in all legislative government initiatives

Job description Job responsibilities

Our friendly and growing team is ready to welcome someone who shares our passion for improving access and the quality of care for people with eating disorders. We are currently expanding to enable delivery of FREED (First episode Rapid Early intervention for Eating Disorders), integrated with the existing service.

Initially the primary focus for the post holder is in working with clients accessing treatment through the FREED pathway, though the post holder will also contribute to, and is part of, the broader team; especially as the FREED model is integrated with the other pathways.

The post holder works under the overall supervision of the Senior Eating Disorders Practitioner FREED Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialists, but is required to work autonomously and undertake the duties of the post without direct supervision. In addition, the post holder is expected to engage in considerable liaison with primary care colleagues and other staff both within and outside EPUT.

There are a considerable number of specific eating disorders training opportunities available for you to attend, including CBT-ED, MANTRA and the Maudsley Whole Team Training. We will also support you with up to £6,000 of appraisal-linked training and development over the first 2-3 years in post.

The post holder will be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Registered Nurse - Mental Health
  • 2 years post registration experience in mental Health
  • Understanding responsibilities under the Care programme Approach, Mental Capacity Act, Clinical Governance, Risk Assessment and Child Protection Legislation
  • Experience of ensuring that the values including Care, Compassion, Competence, communication, Courage and Commitment are adhered to daily, and any matters of concern are raised with the relevant Line Manager or through the necessary processes within the Trust.
  • Ability to analyse and present complex information to professional colleagues

This post attracts Fringe Allowance, minimum £1,066 per annum up to a maximum of £1,845 per annum

Annual leave entitlement

In line with the Agenda for Change terms and conditions, on appointment to the NHS you will be entitled to 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays. Your entitlement will increase after 5 years NHS Service to 29 days plus bank holidays per year and then increase again to 33 days plus bank holidays after 10 years service.
