The post holder will be expected to lead, deliver, develop and evaluate pharmacy services to patients entered into cancer clinical trials at GSTFT, including commercial sponsored trials

They will be responsible for the pharmaceutical elements of clinical trials to be compliant with national and European legislative requirements and evaluate cost implications of clinical trials for patients in terms of efficient and effective use of resources and pharmacy workforce implications as part of the assessment of suitability for trials to be undertaken at GSTFT.

They will be responsible for the training of all members of pharmacy & OHCT staff and other staff who may be involved in the provision of clinical trials to patients at GSTFT

They will be an active member of the Pharmacy Research & Development Committee at GSTFT, providing specialist input and advising on pharmaceutical aspects of service provision to clinical trials.

Main duties of the job

To lead the pharmacy service to Oncology & Haematology clinical trials at GSTFT.

To manage and deliver pharmaceutical services in relation to clinical trials

To ensure delivery of the clinical governance agenda in relation to medicines used within clinical trials

To manage and provide the clinical trial services for all patients at GSTFT (except chemotherapy), in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of drugs in these patients.

To ensure safe dispensing practice and supervise the dispensing of clinical trials material for oncology patents, on a daily basis, ensuring all appropriate documentation is completed in line with European legislation, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

To feedback to whole pharmacy and service and OHCT senior staff CAPA results

Ensure that the quality of pharmacy services to support clinical trials are recognised as a lead in the national field, in line with the corporate objectives

To act as a clinical role model in relation to highly specialist expertise in the area of clinical trials and demonstrate the ability to provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of clinical trial drugs in these patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • UK-MPharm degree or equivalent
  • Current GPhC registration


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing pharmaceutical input into clinical trials services
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the clinical trial process, with regard to the setting up and the documentation required to meet legislative requirements
  • Dispensing and checking experience in dispensary and aseptic/technical services
  • Experience in management of pharmacy staff in a dispensing or technical services department


Desirable

  • Knowledge of clinical audit and it's role in pharmacy and medicine
  • Demonstration of active participation in multi-disciplinary health care research


Skills

  • The ability to identify and prioritise clinical work
  • Understanding of national and local priorities
  • Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Integrates research evidence into practice


Desirable
