Due to recent investment in our Oesophago-Gastric (OG) service, we are looking to recruit a new Band 7 OG Lead Specialist Dietitian to join our specialist multidisciplinary team. The Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit is an established regional centre for both oncology and benign surgical procedures. We are looking for an enthusiastic dietitian with an interest in oesophago-gastric dietetics to lead the dietetic service and work with the specialist multidisciplinary team to develop treatment pathways for both OG cancer and benign conditions. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a service and practice a wide range of dietetic skills including home enteral feeding and parenteral nutrition, whilst specialising in a complex and interesting disease area. Previous experience in OG dietetics is highly desirable and you must have experience in developing services.

Job responsibilities
The successful applicant will join our friendly and supportive adult department of 40 dietitians providing clinical support to patients and act as a source of expertise to the wider Multidisciplinary team including surgical, medical, nursing and allied health professionals across the trust.
You will be working closely with two Band 6 OG dietitians as well as the wider dietetic and multidisciplinary team to support the development of both inpatient and outpatient services. You will have the opportunity to be involved with and encouraged to participate in audits and other service development initiatives within the dietetic department and OG service. We are also committed to training A, B and C dietetic students (currently from Leeds Beckett and Newcastle Universities) and the successful candidate will be required to supervise students. The team is committed to supporting staff development and encourages research, audit and CPD opportunities.

- Provides a professional leadership role in specialist areas of dietetic practice, coaching and mentoring staff and students of any discipline.
- If appropriate to the job, role will provide day to day supervision of Dietetic Assistants, Bands 5 and 6 Dietitians.
- Provides highly specialist dietetic assessment, treatment, monitoring and management in one or more speciality areas of dietetics.
- Acts as a source of expertise in dietetics practice locally, regionally and nationally.
- Acts as a source of expertise in nutrition support and dietetics to patients, consultants and other health care professionals.
- Delivers education and training with staff at all levels.
- Contributes to designing, planning and implementing research and audit and contributes to publishing results, working in interdisciplinary teams or with other health professionals.
