Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit to an exciting specialist respiratory position within the Adult Community Respiratory Team.

This post will be primarily based in the direct diagnostic spirometry clinic pathway but with rotation into all other pathways of the wider respiratory service when required such aspulmonary rehabilitation, community respiratory clinics, all other direct diagnostic spirometry clinics, domiciliary admission prevention and assisted discharge support across the Birmingham.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative clinician who is interested in working within Community Respiratory Team. You will need good clinical skills, a flexible approach including excellent team working, communication, organisational and time management skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in accordance with NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct
  • The post holder will work primarily in the Direct Diagnostic Clinics but also rotate across all other service areas delivered by the Community Respiratory Service when required e.g. Admission Avoidance and Assisted Discharge, Respiratory Clinic, Pulmonary Rehabilitation and any others as defined within the Community Respiratory Service Specification.

To coordinate team members to assist in the development of departmental initiatives

To work with the Service Manager to carry out workforce planning, continually develop all areas of the service, implement Improving Working Lives initiatives, support service business plan and Service Specification development, monitor service activity in all areas of work and implement local development plans in line with the Trust business plan.

To participate in the management of all available resources to ensure an effective service that is consistent, accessible and relevant to patients needs.

To take an active role to promote and develop the use of evidence-based practice within the department.

To promote all aspects of multi disciplinary team working by liaising with other health and social care professionals within the primary and secondary care teams, voluntary and other local organisations.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To take an active role within the service and to lead on agreed service initiatives and activities and to provide an effective and efficient service to adults with a range of respiratory conditions.

To manage a highly specialist adult caseload in a variety of clinic settings which will include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning therapy programmes and discharge of patients.

To deputise for the Service Manager when appropriate or as required.

To develop and continually review and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans.

The post is based in an inner-city multi-cultural area, and the post holder must ensure that the needs of ethnic minority and socially excluded groups are met where possible.

To advise the Service Manager of any circumstances that give cause for concern in relation to Service Level Agreements, Health and Safety, meeting of all service objectives or patient related issues.

To promote all aspects of multi disciplinary team working by liaising with other health and social care professionals within the primary and secondary care teams, voluntary and other local organisations.

To be involved in recruitment and selection process with the Service Manager and senior clinicians within the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications/training

Essential

  • Nursing Degree, Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council/Physiotherapy Degree registered with HCPC
  • Association of Respiratory Technicians & Physiologists (ARTP) Qualification in Spirometry or equivalent or recent evidence of working towards


Desirable

  • Degree in Respiratory Care which includes a range of respiratory conditions or recent evidence of working towards
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or working towards (training will be provided)


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at postgraduate level
  • Significant experience of working at a specialist level in the professional area of respiratory care
  • Significant experience of working with a complex range of issues in a rapidly changing environment
  • Relevant leadership experience
