We are looking for an experienced Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Service at Whittington Health. Whittington Health is an Integrated Care Organisation providing a wide range of Acute, Community, Mental Health and Dental Services across North Central London. You will be responsible for coding clinical data as well as supervising some of the less experienced staff whilst working with the Head of Clinical Coding to ensure the Clinical Coding Team's responsibilities are met.

The post holder will be part of a team responsible for providing coding service across income generating services.

The post holder will hold an ACC qualification with an excellent knowledge of ICD10 and OPCS 4 classification systems. They will have clinical coding skills and an ability to extract clinical coding data from a variety of sources including medical notes and trust systems.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and be responsible for the coding function within the assigned clinical units/ specialties.
  • To assist the Head of Clinical Coding to develop, maintain and manage a skilled efficient coding team in order to provide high quality clinical coding service within the Trust.
  • To achieve accurate, timely, and consistent clinical coding within set standards and targets.
  • To be responsible for monitoring and checking quality of coded data within the assigned clinical units / specialties.
  • To attend various meetings and deliver presentations on clinical coding when required.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) qualification
  • Degree level or equivalent


Desirable

  • Approved Clinical Coding Auditor
  • Approved Clinical Coding Trainer


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Computer skills including Word, Excel and Outlook Knowledge of computer use and electronic patient record systems
  • Excellent command of English for all personal, written and electronic forms of communication
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written, and verbal
  • Proven ability to liaise with multidisciplinary teams at all levels of NHS Acute Trusts structure
  • Experience of decision-making by own initiative and liaison with colleagues


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as an accredited clinical coder
  • In depth knowledge of national and international clinical coding rules, conventions, and standard
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Good knowledge and use of information / informatics systems


Desirable

  • Proven clinical coding experience in all specialties
  • Experience of working in NHS
