An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Dietitian to work within the acute team at The Cumberland Infirmary, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will work within the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and neuro rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team providing a clinical service to inpatients at The Cumberland Infirmary. There will be opportunities for service improvement within the speciality.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Dietitian with excellent communication and team working skills. Experience of enteral feeding and working within a multi-disciplinary team. In addition to clinical work, you would be expected to provide nutritional education to both patient support groups and Health care professionals.
Supporting the professional development of the band 5 Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants within the team by providing supervision sessions and learning opportunities as required.
Professional development is given a high priority and there are ongoing educational opportunities as well as practice supervision. The department trains student dietitians on P1, P2 and P3 placements from universities across the North of England. IT and secretarial support is available.
You will join an established department of 18 dietitians and 3 dietetic assistants (acute, community & paediatrics).

Main duties of the job
Clinical - Stroke and Neuro Rehab
- Work independently within the acute setting
- Communicate and deliver information on a wide range of dietary needs, using motivational interviewing techniques, cognitive behaviour therapy, empathy and reassurance skills as appropriate.
- Provide dietary advice to patients in hospital, out patients and their homes as appropriate following a dietetic assessment.
- Ensure that all in-patients in the HASU and rehabilitation ward are receiving appropriate nutritional support.
- Attend and contribute to the HASU and Neuro Rehab MDT meetings.
- Write and contribute to the development of policies and procedures as part of the specialist MDT.
- Participate in the Trust's PEG MDT.
Administration
- Attend and contribute to monthly dietetic department meetings and acute team meetings
- Work within the dietetic department's standards, protocols and procedures and contribute to their review. Work within other organisations' policies and procedures as required
Education
- Lead on the department's resources group
- Participate in the supervision and training of acute dietitians and student dietitians as required
- Undertake continuing professional development, maintaining a portfolio.
- Participate in regular practice supervision
Strategic and Services Responsibility
- Contribute to the development of the acute dietetic service
- Undertake audit as part of the development of the dietetic service
