We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Cardiac Physiologist to join our excellent team in our Cardio-Respiratory Department.

Main duties of the job

At WWL, we have an excellent record for delivering first class patient care, throughout a wide range of invasive and non-invasive procedures, therefore the successful candidate will ultimately be able to perform a range of complex procedures as well as other routine procedures, including:
  • Assist with angioplasty / pacemaker implants procedures
  • Help run the pacemaker service
  • A working knowledge of basic Echocardiography
  • Perform Cardiac Clinical Physiologists led exercise tests
  • Advanced respiratory testing
  • Perform Cardiac Clinical Physiologists led tilt tests
  • Pacemaker Follow up clinics both in person and remote
  • 24 Hour Tape Analysis
  • Completing data input and performing basic cardiology and respiratory investigations

The post holder will be required to work as an independent practitioner and therefore must have the ability to effectively prioritise workloads, and maintain resilience when working under pressure. Successful candidates will be competent working with IT systems, and to the performance requirements of a busy department. HRUK / BHRS accreditation and/ or BSE/ ARTP would be an advantage.

Job responsibilities

Planning and Organisational Duties
  • Communicate complex information related to the service and development to the Cardio-respiratory Service Manager or Deputy Cardio-respiratory Service Manager and Cardiologists
  • Assist in ensuring specialist clinical physiological policies are in place and adhered to.
  • Responsible for patient and client care whilst undertaking diagnostic testing.
  • Responsibility to ensure equipment used is checked for safety.
  • Produce reports for some specialist activities undertaken within the department as required by the Service Managers.
  • Freedom to Act as required within the established policies and codes of practice

Communications and Key Working Relationships

Communicate service-related information to the senior cardiac clinical physiologists, and MDT

Responsibility for Finance

Ordering from stores

Responsibility for Human Resources

Responsible for assisting in audits and research and developments as and when required at the decision of the cardiology managers

Training of all junior members of staff or MDT in ECG and Tape analysis.

Responsibility for Health & Safety

Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Proven relevant theoretical/ practical/ technical knowledge to underpin the basic investigative procedure within the department
  • Proven exposure to diagnostic test areas
  • Basic Computer Knowledge


Skills

Essential

  • Communication of complex information and good relationship Skills for persuasion, re-assurance of patient/clients and for liaising with all trust members
  • Superior Analytical, interpretational & Judgemental Skills of a range of facts, figures and situations
  • Able to concentrate, very frequently, for prolonged periods while performing diagnostic testing, produce complex reports and calculations
  • Have the ability to recognise when urgent action is required in unpredictable and stressful situations and act in accordance
  • Highly developed skills such as dexterity, co-ordination and sensory and the manipulation of fine diagnostic tools
  • Able physically to make moderate physical effort to frequently move equipment, wheel chairs and beds on a daily basis.


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience as Senior Clinical Physiologist with responsibility for Service Provision
  • Expertise in all routine service provision and two areas of the more complex services
  • Experience reporting more than one specialist cardio-respiratory services


Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant clinical experience & BSc in Clinical Physiology
  • ALS or ILS


Additonal

Essential

  • Working across multi sites inclusive of an on call PCI rota
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
