We are seeking a highly motivated and talented surgical trainee, ST1-ST2 in either Paediatric Neurosurgery or Paediatric Urology (please refer to full guidance below) to undertake a one-year pre-doctoral research fellowship in translational biomedical research.
Main duties of the job
Research: Conduct an independent research project under the supervision of the supervisory group aligned to surgical speciality (refer to projects portfolio) Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, scientists, and clinicians, to foster a collaborative and dynamic research environment. Training and Development: Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field, attend relevant conferences, workshops, and educational sessions to enhance knowledge and skills. Training will be delivered by clinicians in both centres both virtually and in person. In addition, training courses offered by the BRC, the University of Liverpool, Alder Hey and ICH-GOSH will be available to the successful applicant. Patient Care: The appointed candidate will attend specialist clinics, learning about the important aspects of pre- and post-operative care in this condition. They will also attend and assist with surgical procedures as required by the research component of the project.

- Full Registration and licence to practice with GMC (or eligibility for)
- Demonstrable experience at ST1-2 in Paediatric Neurosurgery or Paediatric Urology
- Research Experience: Possess prior research experience and hold certification in good clinical practice.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in translational research and in alignment to the project selected
- Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills, with the ability to effectively present research findings and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation
- Familiarity with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements governing clinical research and patient care
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Willingness to spend time at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, the University of Liverpool, and GOSH and UCL GOS Institute of Child Health, as required by the research project
