We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and supportive pharmacist to join the Medicines Advice (MA) function of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS). The post is based at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) in Ipswich, Suffolk.

Join us as a senior pharmacist to support the day-to-day operation and delivery of MA services. The SPS MA Service provides clinical advice about medicines to a large number of healthcare professionals via the national clinical enquiry answering service, provision of website advice, horizon scanning and other national medicines optimisation workstreams. The Trust's MA service sits alongside the SPS MA service providing medicines advice to ESNEFT healthcare professionals as well as patients via the medicines advice helpline. You will have a broad and varied role working in collaboration with colleagues across the MA service.

About our Pharmacy Service

Main duties of the job

  • Support the day-to-day operational management and delivery of the Medicines Advice service, working in collaboration with peers and under the direction of the Advanced Medicines Advice Pharmacist to ensure the safe, efficient, cost effective and patient-centred development and delivery of the SPS Medicines Advice service, advising healthcare professionals on all aspects of medicines optimisation.
  • Line manage and have oversight responsibility for MA pharmacists based at ESNEFT.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. You should have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work collaboratively with others and embrace, drive and inspire change and innovation.
  • Critically evaluate clinical and operational data, manage difficult and complex situations with the ability to prioritise workload and delivery of services.
  • Use advanced medicines expertise and clinical interpretation skills to advise on all aspects of medicines optimisation.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • A clear understanding of project management.
  • Experience of working in a complex matrix type working environment within a diffuse national organisation


Desirable

  • Managing difficult situations and motivating others for service delivery.
  • Some experience of working with medicines commissioning and decision making structures within the NHS to influence change


Qualifications

Essential

  • Pharmacist (Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or other relevant field, e.g. management, or equivalent experience of working in specialist area


Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification, i.e. MSc, in clinical pharmacy, or equivalent experience
  • Post graduate qualification in evidence-based healthcare, or equivalent
  • Post-graduate level original research and/or publication in an area relevant specifically to the delivery of Medicines Optimisation


Knowledge

Essential

  • In depth knowledge of Medicines Optimisation as it pertains to both primary and secondary care
  • Significant experience delivering medicines advice to health care professionals, its current provision across England through SPS, and its role in supporting Medicines Optimisation


Desirable

  • Existing knowledge of the Specialist Pharmacy Service and its development and role in delivery of Medicines Optimisation
