We require a Senior Service Engineer to join our Datacentre Infrastructure Team.
The post holder will report to the Senior Infrastructure Architect, while working closely with the Datacentre Manager and the respective Infrastructure teams.
The role will also require that the individual develops good working relationships with the Service Management, Information Governance and Cyber Security teams.
The post holder will have extensive experience providing specialist third line technical support for Linux (Red Hat) servers. They will also have experience supporting technologies such as, IBM Storage, IBM Spectrum Protect backup solution, SAN Infrastructure, Cisco and Dell blade servers and Cisco ACI network.

Main duties of the job
- To manage and provide specialist advice across a number of systems including
Linux (Red Hat), Spectrum Protect backup software, IBM storage, San Infrastructure.
- Provide strategic planning of the IT infrastructure within specialised areas to ensure it remains in support and fit for purpose.
- Deliver projects to help upgrade and decommission infrastructure.
- Determine the cause of systems software or hardware problems, arrive at a solution and implement appropriate actions to remedy.
- Install all systems software, upgrades or new releases, all utility software, and all temporary program fixes. Perform system builds as required.
- Maintain the production environment - work to reduce the risk of disruption to the production environment.
- Assist programming and operations personnel with fault finding for technical problems and assist with their resolution.
- Ensure performance considerations are designed into system configurations and maintain a formal methodology for reporting performance.

- oEducated to Degree level in an IT related subject or equivalent level of experience plus significant experience in a third line server support role
Knowledge & Experience

- oHave the ability to converse fluently, logically and confidently with a wide range of levels of staff.
- oHave extensive experience of Linux administration
- oExcellent knowledge of server architectures
- oPossess highly developed specialist knowledge in the following areas: o Virtualisation technologies including VMware/vSphere and Hyper-V. o Enterprise level storage technologies o Practical experience of building server infrastructure o Server backup technologies o WSUS/Security Patching o Server Operating System security o Active Directory/Group Policy/DNS/DHCP
- oHave experience in project management techniques, ideally holding a recognised project management qualification
