This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our Community Palliative Therapy Team working in Teesside Hospice.

The post holder will be employed as a Senior Therapist working collaboratively in an integrated team with Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, nursing, and consultant.

This post offers development in clinical and leadership skills and the post holder will be supported to attend relevant post graduate courses. We have an established an comprehensive training programme and our staff are encouraged and supported in their CPD through workshops, clinical supervision and the appraisal process. There is also an expectation to actively participate in audit and research and the Hospital has close links with both the University of Teesside and Durham University.

Main duties of the job

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the country, close to the North Yorkshire Moors and within easy reach of Newcastle and Leeds. It comprises two acute hospitals, James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital Northallerton and a number of community hospitals and community services.

Therapy services at South Tees NHS trust are also part of the wider Integrated OT service. This is a unique partnership between Health and Social care in South Tees with a commitment to working together, improving the quality of our services and getting rid of existing barriers between health and social services.

The post holder will be expected to have experience in the occupational therapy assessment and management of palliative patients and have gained experience across a variety of specialties with the ability to assess for postural seating and provide fatigue management.

The ability to travel independently throughout the communities is also an essential part of this post as you will need to support patients to return home if their preferred place of care is home.

You will also work closely with the acute palliative Therapy team based at James Cook University Hospital as well as the Specialist Palliative care team in the community and Social care OTs to provide a seamless pathway for the palliative patient journey.

Successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered as fit to practice as an OT by professional body, e.g. HCPC
  • Evidence of Post Graduate clinical training/ development relevant to palliative care


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates a highly specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to Palliative care
  • Knowledge of relevant national guidelines and standards for palliative patients
  • To display effective communication skills, communicating complex, sensitive and contentious information to others
  • Demonstrates an ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrates competent IT and system skills


Desirable

  • Demonstrates evidence of teaching skills to a range of professionals


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of post graduate clinical experience as an OT across various specialities
  • Evidence of working within community Therapy services within the NHS
  • Evidence of audit and participation in service development
  • Member of specialist interest group
