Teenage Cancer Trust TYA Clinical Nurse Specialist UHB for 18 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the award winning Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Service for the West Midlands. We are looking to recruit a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Principal Treatment Centre Team at the QEHB as a secondment or fixed term for 18 months.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellence in clinical care for Teenagers and Young Adults (aged 16 -- 24) with cancer and their families.

Main duties of the job

Based on the Teenage Cancer Trust Young Persons Unit, you will play a key role in providing quality TYA patient care in line with Peer review measures. Working across the hospital and site specific teams and with the existing TYA CNS team, you will support delivery of age appropriate care, whilst also promoting the philosophy and ethos of Teenage Cancer Trust, in line with the charities strategic vision for Nursing.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise when identifying and caring for the specific needs of TYA patients and their carers. You will need excellent interpersonal skills, TYA nursing experience, knowledge of TYA cancers and the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with diverse teams. By working alongside the TYA team and Site Specific Teams you will promote a cohesive approach to TYA care.

You will be supported by the West Midlands Teenage Cancer Trust Lead Nurse, the TYA MDT based at QEHB and the wider regional Band 7 Nurses.

Teenage Cancer Trust will support your professional development, including attendance at the national Teenage Cancer Trust Nurses professional Forum and educational opportunities will be provided.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (Field dependent upon role )
  • *Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in ( appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6 /7
  • *Recognised mentorship course


Desirable

  • *To have or working towards a MSc/ Masters qualification
  • *To have or working towards advanced health assessment module -- where applicable to the role
  • *Non -- Medical Prescriber/ willingness to undertake - where applicable to the role


Experience

Essential

  • *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • *Significant years post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality
  • *Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
  • *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
  • *Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • *Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • *Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • *Experience of patient service user advocacy role
  • *Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan , implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients / relatives/ care staff
  • *Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality
  • *Has understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding
  • *Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance


Desirable

  • *Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
  • *Experience in service development
  • *Awareness of current research related to the speciality
