This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Nurse Clinical Service Unit at St James University Hospitals as the Lead Nurse/Midwife/AHP for Professional Practice Standards. You will be passionate about patient safety and standards of practice, with experience in project planning, quality improvement and policy writing. As a skilled communicator, you will work collaboratively across the organisation, facilitating the Trust approach for patient safety by implementing and evaluating safety standards, striving to improve quality and ensure the delivery of safe effective care. With new and innovative changes occurring, you will be and expert in change management with an eye for detail whilst able to think strategically.

Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the Head of Nursing for Professional Practice and Safety Standards and the Lead Nurse for Patient Safety, as well as operational and corporate colleagues. You will be expected to lead on specified projects including facilitating the digitalisation of nursing documentation and the development of Nursing guidelines and policies whilst monitoring standards through audit. You will be familiar with quality improvement methodologies and will use these to improve patient care throughout the Trust. You will be responsible for a team of Band 6 and 7 Nurses and the delivery of defined workstreams that complement the portfolio assigned to the Lead Nurse for Patient Safety. You will be expected to deputise for the Head of Nursing and your fellow Lead Nurse as required. In order for you to excel in your role and deliver outstanding work, you will be supported with an annual appraisal and a personalised professional development plan.

Job responsibilities
The job holder will be part of a group of nurses and AHPs who work with the Deputy Chief Nurses, Heads of Nursing and Head of Professional Practice, Standards and Safety in the delivery of the Nursing & Midwifery agenda, with particular emphasis on:
- Improving the quality of patient care by the use of quality improvement methodology and the Leeds Improvement Method
- Development of Nursing Policies, Clinical Guidelines and the monitoring of these policies or guidelines through audit
- Development of Nursing & Midwifery roles
- Maintenance and on-going development of the Nursing & Midwifery ward heath check system, including its integration into the everyday ward management of monitoring and evaluating care standards, including the Perfect Ward and Accreditation.
- Work closely with LTHT care delivery partner in the setting up, monitoring and evaluation of key patient quality indicators
- Facilitate the digitalisation of nursing documentation throughout the organisation alongside documentation governance and procedures
- Responsible for a team of nurses and AHPs that will work in support of wards and clinical areas to assure the delivery of LTHT quality key performance indicators
The job holder will participate in the planning and management of projects as required, including providing written and verbal progress reports to senior staff within LTHT.
The job holder will work in partnership with other colleagues from across the Trust providing professional leadership and expertise to improve quality and deliver effective safe care and personal care across the organisation.
The post holder has responsibility for the supervision and direction of a team of nurses and AHPs who facilitate the delivery of the Trusts strategic approach for patient safety by implementing and evaluating safety standards across the organisation.
