With the developments in East Sussex Integrated Care System delivering transformation plans to meet local needs, it is an exciting time to be part of a large county wide service setting the direction and vision for future SLT services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist, who has completed their NQP competencies and their post basic dysphagia training, who is looking for their next post to specialise in community SLT services. In East Sussex we can offer you the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist SLTs and SLT assistants to gain the experience and skills you will need to work at a specialist level. We will utilise a competency development tool to help you to identify what knowledge and skills you need to develop and through structured supervision we will help you to achieve these.

You will also have the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist clinicians in acute care, voice, head and neck cancer, stroke, critical care and neurological degenerative conditions to further develop your knowledge and skills.

You will be joining a friendly and enthusiastic team of acute and community SALTs who work seamlessly to provide pathways of care to the local adult population, in line with organisational and Divisional objectives.

We are at an exciting point in developing our rehabilitation tool bag and have received a large investment in funding for IOPI and Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group)
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance/audit
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Awareness of the wider context of the NHS within specialist clinical field
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Good presentation skills both written and verbal, including accuracy and attention to detail
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to verbalise the clinical reasoning process in the management of routine cases
  • Motivated to work flexibly with an inter-professional framework
  • Evidence of ability to use own initiative with boundaries of role.
  • Experience of lone working


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
  • To have worked under the supervision of a clinical specialist
  • Experience of training other professionals
  • Experience of MDT/Inter-professional working
  • Expereience of client centred goals


Desirable

  • Experience of working within a community setting
  • Experience of mentoring students/assistants
  • Experience of working virtually with patients
  • Experience of using Systmone electronic patient system


Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Completion of specialist short courses in communication disorders/AAC
  • Dysphagia trained, meeting the specialist RCSLT dysphagia competency framework to work independently
