We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our CRHTT in the Mid & North Hampshire Division. The team is based in Basingstoke, with a hub in Winchester. This is a great opportunity to join as part of a three-consultant team and would be a supportive environment for a new or an experienced consultant.
Applicants will be considered up to 12 months from CCT at application. Applicants will be considered who are looking for less than a full time post or whom wish to job share. Applicants will be considered who wish for a flexible working pattern, including long days. Please detail your preferences on your covering letter or discuss at pre-interview visits.
The post holder will provide cross-cover for leave with the other senior medical staff within the CRHTT and carry out both scheduled and urgent clinical work flexibly to support clinical need and patient safety.
The teams enjoy good working relationships with local GPs, CMHT's, Substance Misuse Services, OPMH CMHTs, CAMHS and Learning Disability Services. Substance Misuse and CAMHS are provided by a different organisation.
The team is supported by junior medical staff and host medical students from the University of Southampton as well as the St George's University, Grenada. There is a strong teaching and training culture.
Main duties of the job
Consultants will use their skills and expertise to achieve the best care for service users, with a focus on the assessment and management of complexity and severity. This includes:
*Ensuring evidence-based practice and user centered recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate all interventions provided by the team to promote recovery and independence. Focusing on the management of service users presenting with the greatest complexity and severity will necessitate consultants working with relatively small case loads in order to be able to respond in a flexible and timely way to the needs of the most unwell.
*Managing complex information, make formulations using a biopsychosocial model.
*Ensuring appropriate and effective engagement with carers and families, following the principles of Triangle of Care.
*Lead on the interface with primary care, and ensure there is an effective interface with the Acute Care Pathway, and be proactive in resolving problems across pathways.
*Contributing to nurses and practitioners patient management plans and providing senior clinical oversight of the whole CRHTT caseload, provided by members of the team, not just to those seen by the consultant.
*Management of risk, and weighing complex risk information to deliver care that is in the best interests of the recovery of the individual. Supporting the MDT in this by clear communication, containing anxiety, and maintaining hope for the patient.
