Looking for a great work life balance? Looking for a dynamic job with a clear route for career progression and an established culture of psychologically and trauma informed practice? Looking to work as part of an enthusiastic and energetic multidisciplinary team? Then Therapeutic Acute Care may be the job for you.

Therapeutic acute care is a rapidly growing area of investment within the Long Term NHS plan and presents many exciting opportunities for developing focussed, therapeutic and effective recovery oriented approaches. Our successful candidate will be joining an experienced team with a broad array of expertise. Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has for many years been at the forefront nationally for pioneering psychological approaches within Acute Care and you will be continuing to further develop this legacy.

The job vacancy is a Band 8a 1.0 WTE based on a single ward at Melbury Lodge, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. You will join an established and growing acute care psychological therapy team which works across both inpatient and outpatient crisis care. This post will be primarily fulltime within a split-sex 25 bed inpatient ward. Clinical Psychology plays a lead role within the MDT and is highly respected in terms of informing patients’ care. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessments and brief therapy for individuals who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis, as well as offering advice, consultation and training to staff within the wider multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with and support the leadership team within the inpatient services to embed a trauma-informed approached within the unit.

The acute psychology team is part of the wider South West Hampshire Psychological Services. We are a friendly and supportive team of psychologists and psychological therapists. As a psychology team we work closely with each other and regularly meet together for CPD, supervision, and reflective practice

Continuing professional development is actively supported to develop your clinical and leadership skills, and all staff are encouraged to become accredited within at least one therapeutic modality. Within the service, we offer a range of interventions, including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

The job will be based in Winchester, a cathedral city steeped in history. It has good access to London, The New Forest, Southampton Airport and the South Coast making it an ideal location for maintaining a great work life balance. Winchester is often rated as being one of the highest quality of life places to live in the country. It has an abundance of good and outstanding schools and great restaurants making it a desirableprospect for families of all ages.

Ideally we are looking for a fulltime candidate, but we would also welcome negotiations around part time and flexible working hours. We will also consider Band 7 preceptorships for capable newly qualified psychologists (with secured funding to progress to 8a upon achievement of preceptorship objectives). We welcome and actively encourage informal enquiries and visits. If you would like to discuss the post in more detail, please contact Dr Ben Frayne (Acute Care Lead- Consultant Clinical Psychologist) at ben.frayne@southernhealth.nhs.uk or telephone 07827 895757
