We are currently recruiting into our newly created Band 7 Practice Development Nurse post in our friendly and busy Emergency Department.
Newham Emergency Department serves a large diverse population and on average see's 400-500 patients a day, including acute medical patients, paediatrics, and patients in a mental health crisis.
Main duties of the job
To lead on the development of staff, the overall strategic learning and development plan and provide support to the senior leadership team in implementing an educational strategy which supports the continuous development of the nursing workforce. We are fortunate enough to have access to the in-house accredited ED courses and an in-house triage course but would expect the post-holder to develop these further.
You will be self-motivated an excellent communicator and have proven clinical and organisational skills but also have a desire to learn and develop and work as an integral member of our large and dynamic team.
The post holder will work within the NMC Code, trust policies, guidance, and procedures to ensure safe working practices.

Essential
- Adult NMC Registration
- Relevant degree level
- Postgraduate qualification in academic/ practice education or the willingness to work towards
- Recognised Emergency Nursing post-graduation course
- Mentorship in Practice or Practice Assessor qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional development and short courses
- Immediate Life Support
- Evidence of ED skills (plastering/suturing/venepuncture/cannulation)
Desirable
- Master's level or working towards
- Nursing/Education/Research
Experience
Essential
- Recent experience within an Emergency Department at band 6
- Experience and proven skills in acute and specialist nursing & in the care and management of all aspects of Medicine
- Experience of formal, informal teaching of nurses
- To have actively supervised and assessed staff at all levels in clinical practice
Desirable
- Significant recent experience of providing direct care to acutely unwell patients
- Significant experience in caring for acute respiratory patients on Non-Invasive Ventilation and tracheostomy
