The role will be based at Llandudno Hospital, with a focus on providing support across the Integrated Health Community (IHC). As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the health and wellbeing of older adults by taking a person-centred approach, contributing to high-quality care that prioritises comprehensive and appropriate medication management.

Main duties of the job

Performs a wide variety of routine and non-routine duties in relation to the preparation and supply of medicines and related products for service users within the Health Board.

The Pharmacy Technician is expected to exercise a degree of autonomy and control in the performance of allocated duties within limits set by the Chief Pharmacy Technician and in accordance with departmental and Health Board policies and procedures

The post holder has trained and maintained the competencies required to carry out the duties of an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician.

The post holder will hold and maintain the competencies or be willing to undergo the training required to undertake the duties of an Accredited Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician.

Works under the management of the Senior Pharmacy Technician and ward pharmacist in area of work to ensure a safe and efficient service is maintained, delivering a range of medicines management activities including medicines reconciliation and medicines history taking. Further commitment to work autonomously in order to transcribe and clinically prioritise will be encouraged.

Job responsibilities

Liaises with pharmacy staff in all sectors and other healthcare professionals to ensure a patient orientated medicines management service is provided. Works closely with the lead pharmacist to adopt a team approach to medicines management, acting as a key member of the multidisciplinary team and the wider pharmacy team, providing medicines management advice to healthcare professionals, patients, and carers. Provides professional support to colleagues and leads by example, contributing to the development of procedures and guidance as necessary.

Qualifications and / or Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (QCF) or equivalent
  • National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician or working towards within first 18 months
  • National Accredited Medicines Management Qualification or working towards within first 18 months


Experience

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate suitable level of experience
  • General dispensing
  • Experience of patient-orientated medicines systems
  • Basic knowledge of the therapeutic use of drugs


Desirable

  • Working in hospital or community pharmacy dispensary services
  • Good understanding of operation of hospital pharmacy services
  • Primary care experience


Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively with a variety of service users
  • Able to use available IT systems, to produce reports, gather and analyse data and produce presentations
  • Evidence of good documentation skills
  • Evidence of effective mentoring
  • Ability to organise own workload and support the workload of the team
