An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic Band 6 Midwife to join our team within the Maternity Day Assessment Unit (DAU), providing support to high-risk antenatal women. Our unique and multifaceted service will give you the opportunity to be more autonomous and experience a variety of roles. We are a progressive service and endeavour to be forward thinking to maintain local and national standards.

As well as planned and unplanned appointments, DAU provides women with the opportunity to have an outpatient foleys induction which is midwifery lead, support the consultants with ECVs, offer acute scanning service and provide monofer infusions to our symptomatic women. We are delighted to have moved into our new building, offering a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment which is well equipped and spacious.

The successful applicant will be motivated, passionate and dedicated to providing high quality researched based care, dedicated to promoting the well-being of our women, their babies and families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team, including maintaining professional links with our maternity triage team, community midwives and sonographers.

Main duties of the job

The maternity Day Assessment Unit is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, with close links to Amersham and Wycombe Hospital. We provide a 7 day a week service throughout the year, which covers 10.5hrs of the day. There will be a supporting role in the Antenatal Clinic when required.

Person Specification

Education, and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • MSPP


Desirable

  • NVQ Assessor
  • Evidence of Further Study


Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a preceptor Midwife
  • Ability to be a mentor to student midwives/nurses/MCA's
  • Completion of mentor assessor workshops


Desirable

  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively within it


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical skills, in particular:Suturing , Cannulation, Supervision of epidural infusion
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct, Guidelines and Professional Practice
  • Awareness and knowledge of vulnerable adult and child Protection issues
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice
  • Professional appearance and behavious
  • Good communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work on own initiative and mange own time
  • Willing to undertake further study
  • Good previous attendance record
  • Flexible approach to working hours and practices
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS with check against vulnerable groups barred lists
