This post is open to registered Nurses and Midwives.

Provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff to ensure effective running of the unit in the absence of Manager. Promote positive patient experience to all patients ensuring a positive patient journey.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties
  • Assist with the clinical management of the department, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of patient and family centred care. Ensuring effective communication is maintained.
  • Function at experienced nurse level, able to make effective decisions autonomously / independently without supervision and in partnership with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Act as a team leader / co-ordinator and role model for the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of a high standard of evidence-based care to patients and providing support for all staff on the unit.
  • Participate in projects within the unit and represent the department at appropriate Trust meetings.
  • Facilitate the education of registered and nonregistered staff and work in association with, and the support of, the unit manager in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing and/or improving the quality of patient care.
  • The post holder may be required to work within any of the Division as required.

  • Occasionally the post holder will have to attend Liverpool women's hospital for training and or cross site working requirements.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RN/RM
  • Mentorship in Practice/ ENB998
  • Professional Knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training, experience in fertility service, short course- managerial training
  • Registered Midwives must maintain midwifery practice hours to maintain registration.


Desirable

  • Nurse Independent Prescribing (V300)
  • Leadership Course, eg LEO


Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge across range of procedures, underpinned by theory
  • Develop specialised programmes of care, provide highly specialised advice concerning care and discharge planning
  • Organise own time and juniors, experience of generating staff rotas
  • Health Promotion


Desirable

  • Competent in USS or Embryo Transfer or must be willing to commence training within 6 months of commencing position


Knowledge of Health & Safety Issues

Essential

  • Safe use of equipment
  • Knowledge of infection control policy and processes
  • Promote positive reporting culture for incidents/ ACE's

  • IOSH
