We are looking for an experienced Nurse/AHP to join our existing team as Trauma/Resus Lead.

You will be a n experienced dynamic and highly motivated individual with a specialist interest in high acuity nursing.

The role will involve:
  • Clinical governance of Major Trauma and Resus patients.
  • Engagement with the Major Trauma Network and associated National Major Trauma Nursing Group.
  • Educate (RESUS room, Major Trauma NMTNG Level 1 standards).
  • Support clinical work for progression and development of staff.
  • Clinical audits and reviews, keen interest in analysing data and the implications on clinical performance.
  • Problem solving and Quality Improvement initiatives.


Main duties of the job

Responsible for the daily management and organisation of the Resus Unit, in leading and ensuring a quality nursing service is provided for patients. Ensure the efficient use of resources by implementing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of care provision using evidence based practice.

Provide clinical and managerial expertise and act as a resource for all disciplines of staff and service users. To act as a role model in providing leadership and support to staff in conjunction with the Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing and Matron to implement the recommendations of the nursing strategy.

Job responsibilities

  • Manage and organise the Resus area within the Emergency Department on a daily basis, byco-ordinating the activities of the unit team and effective deployment of resources.
  • Responsible for staff management issues including the delivery and implementation of acomprehensive range of HR duties.
  • Identifies, maintains and improves the quality of patient flow during admission and dischargeperiods through the implementation of best practice.
  • Allocates / deploys staff both medical and nursing in response to service demand and patientsneeds.
  • Implements best practice and delivery of high standard of nursing care.
  • Ensure that staff adheres to Trust procedures and protocols.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with local and national targets.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and skill mix in accordance with unit needs.
  • Plans, reviews and adjusts staff rosters in accordance with unit/organisational requirements.
  • Arrange the reception, transfer and discharge of patients in accordance with the units policiesand procedures, through effective liaison with the multidisciplinary team, other disciplines and ifnecessary external agencies.
  • Ensure that effective communication is maintained both within the ward itself and with otherrelevant external agencies or individuals to ensure the management of the service meets thedemands.
  • Organise own workload and adjust priorities in response to issues arising in the workplace.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to issues, which require urgent or immediate attention,reporting to other members of the multidisciplinary/management team as necessary.
  • Provides support to the organisation in the maintenance of equipment to ensure quality controlstandards are met.
  • Co-ordinate change management strategies in providing an effective and efficient emergencycare service.
  • Responsibility to keep Matron informed regarding relevant clinical and personnel issues.
  • Deputise for the Matron as requested at meetings and other events.
  • Ensure self and staff comply with Trusts policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
  • Responsible for proactive risk recognition, record and report untoward incidents and actively carry out steps to minimise further risk.
  • Participate in the Trusts quality monitoring programme.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of major Incident / decontamination procedures.

  • Management /Leadership qualification or equivalent experience
  • Diploma/ Degree qualification on health care subject
  • Advanced Life Support
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake
  • TNCC or willingness to undertake
