A new adolescent low secure service is being developed, and there are plans for a comprehensive re-provision of adult secure services.

Main duties of the job

The Trust is seeking to appoint a specialty doctor in Forensic Psychiatry to join the existing consultant and junior doctor team at Southfield. This is a full-time replacement post.

Southfield has an established multi-disciplinary team, with non-consultant medical staff, psychology, occupational therapy, social work and nursing and health-care support work provision. Service users access primary care services at a local GP practice and there are links with secondary care physical health services provided at Southampton General Hospital.

In addition to having an inpatient caseload, the consultant teams provide community forensic liaison to local general adult services, for example opinions on risk management, future possible referrals, post-discharge advice and care pathway transition. Consultant teams also hold a caseload providing in-put to patients placed in out-of-area beds (low to high security), including reviews for potential repatriation in-area.
