This is a new and key role that has direct responsibility for systems used in the cardiology department to provide ongoing management and technical support and build the bridge between the service and Digital teams.

This role will require the post holder to primarily work with the Cardiology department assisting with configuring and managing the cardiology specialised systems maintaining close connection with Cardiology service, suppliers and other Digital teams

Also build community of practice across other technical teams across the Trust who are outside of ICT (e.g. Pathology, Radiology, , PACS, Clinical Engineering and Medical Technology etc)

The individual in this position will collaborate closely with Cardiology service, IT departments, and operational and change management colleagues within the Trust to achieve departmental goals. They will be responsible for supervising several specialised IT systems to support diagnostics and enhance patient care. Additionally, they will play a role in integrating new technologies by comprehending their infrastructure and leveraging IT systems to optimise data utilisation

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure technical implementation, management, and optimisation of trust cardiology and other systems and applications meet agreed standards and support investment.
  • Use technical expertise to guide users and stakeholders on solving business problems when developing applications for Cardiology, ICT, or bespoke software.
  • Analyse change requirements for Cardiology and ICT applications, including impact assessments for large system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with Systems Managers to plan and implement initiatives across clinical and IT functions.
  • Coordinate with in-house ICT teams for testing scripts, user acceptance testing, and documentation.
  • Conduct training needs analysis for staff and provide coaching to increase team knowledge.
  • Facilitate communication between clinical users and technical teams, ensuring minimal service disruption.
  • Manage user incidents and requests, adhering to SLAs, KPIs, and timeframes.
  • Liaise with third parties to investigate and resolve incidents, Requests for Change, Post Incident Reviews, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Promote local system user groups and participate in regional/national events.
  • Contribute to work packages with demand and change management teams.
  • Provide core systems administration and configuration support.
  • Develop efficient processes and documentation for business requests and incidents.
  • Manage the system roadmap in collaboration with information systems Vendor.
  • Offer cross-cover support for annual leave or absences in diagnostic services.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of the organisation and third parties

  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills to support a consistent approach to use of IT
  • Specialist knowledge of IT applications set-up, configuration, data entry and interrogation in healthcare setting
  • Expert understanding of desktop, server, and network systems and how they interlink and function to provide an integrated IT infrastructure
  • Expert knowledge of national NHS systems and applications, and the infrastructure required to support them

Experience

Essential

  • Proven IT experience in NHS systems support or equivalent industry and environment
  • Good understanding of IT, systems and applications, how they interface with each other and the impact on the business caused by unavailability.
  • Awareness of Information Governance policies and obligations, including Data Protection Act and an understanding of patient data confidentiality
  • Proven successful experience of system set-up, configuration, and management
  • Practical experience of clinical and administrative workflow, policies, procedures, and the importance of data
  • System management experience in Cardiology IT
  • At least 2 years experience in managing multidisciplinary teams


Desirable

  • Previous experience in supporting clinical systems in a complex IT support environment using ITIL principles
  • Experience of delivering systems business change in an organisation or service
  • Training of staff in an IT / clinical environment
