An exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the role of Ultrasound Manager for Colchester Hospital. This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week role.

Colchester Hospital is part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) and provides Ultrasound services to the North Essex region. This is an excellent opportunity to further your experience in an exciting busy department. You should hold either the DCR (R), Degree or BSc Radiography or equivalent relevant post-graduate qualification in ultrasound, a Pg Certificate or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (DMU) or equivalent and current professional registration with a relevant professional body.
You will be the lead for providing clinical development of professional ultrasound staff & deputise for and provide support to the senior management team in the delivery of all Radiology services including X-Ray, MRI Fluoroscopy, CT and Ultrasound.
In addition, you must have excellent communication skills and be able to work on your own initiative and as a member of a team. The trust is committed to its staff and their development and to equal opportunities and diversity.

Main duties of the job
- Work to a job plan that is mainly management based but be flexible in order to respond to specific clinical service needs.
- To be responsible for the day to day provision of a comprehensive, efficient, relevant and cost effective Ultrasound service at base site and community sites.
- Assist the senior management team in managing and organising the clinical radiology service.
- Assist the senior management team in ensuring that guidelines and protocols are in place to ensure recognised best practice is performed and maintained throughout.
- Provide a lead for clinical development of professional ultrasound staff.
- Be the professional lead for Sonographers in the Radiology Department.
- Deputise for and provide support to the senior management team in the delivery of all Radiology services including X-Ray, MRI Fluoroscopy, CT and Ultrasound.
- Ensure the senior management team are kept informed of any relevant service issues.
- Be based at Colchester Hospital but the post holder will be expected to maintain an effective service level at the other community sites.
- Be accountable with the team for planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within their clinical workload, maintaining agreed standards and ensuring patient satisfaction.

Experience
Essential
- Significant advanced clinical experience post M-level qualification. i.e. significant proven experience at a senior level
- Experience in all obstetric, early pregnancy, general abdominal and gynaecology ultrasound.
- Experience of supervising and training sonographers and trainee sonographers at M-level.
- Teaching and presentation skills with experience of mentoring students
- Continuous professional development in ultrasound, substantiated by personal portfolio.
- Experience in audit and R& D.
Desirable
- Advanced ultrasound clinical practice e.g. small part and MSK.
- Experience in subfertility scanning and follicle tracking.
- Broad experience of general radiography practice including CT and fluoroscopy.
Qualifications
Essential
- DMU or PG Dip or Cert in Medical Ultrasound at M-level.
- Evidence of CPD
- Nuchal Translucency accreditation
- Knowledge of advance practice within a wide area of specialist ultrasound applications.
