Main duties of the job
We are currently looking for a Clinical Specialist Therapist (Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist) to work within the Urgent Care Therapy team. The team provide services across the Emergency Department (ED), Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and both the medical & frailty Short Stay Units.
We work alongside the Frailty & Interface Team (FIT) within ED & AMU, ensuring frailty screening & Comprehensive geriatric assessments are completed in the emergency corridor.

Job responsibilities
Not only do we see frail patients within the emergency corridor, we are also responsible for providing any therapy intervention in ED/AMU. We therefore see a large variety of patients with respiratory, neurological & orthopaedic conditions. You will assist in the smooth running of the patient discharge pathway preventing, unnecessary admission to the acute hospital wards. This fast paced and often complex caseload will involve functional and risk assessments, liaison with a variety of services in both health and social care as well as working alongside both Consultants in Emergency Care and Consultant Physicians/Geriatricians.

- To provide OT/PT professional leadership to the acute therapy team.
- To be a clinical expert (specialist) in this area.
- To work with the team and clinical lead to ensure smooth, effective and safe delivery of therapy in the Urgent Care Setting.
- Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice, training and support within the therapy team and to the wider multi-disciplinary team
- Act as a lead for the specialist area developing the service (in conjunction with the management team/MDT team)
- Ensure service delivery is evidence-based or follows local / national best practice where evidence base is not available.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, ensure clinical governance targets are met, including the development of clinical standards and protocols, research, and clinical risk management.
- Take the lead role on Clinical Audit and Direct Observations of Practice (Live Supervision) to both monitor and ensure the overall quality of the service provision, and to ensure quality and clinical standards are met.

- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registered
- Evidence of CPD (portfolio)
- Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical area
Desirable
- Member of RCOT or CSP
- Member of Specialist section within professional body
Experience
Essential
- Experience of audit
- Experience of presenting complex data to a range of different audiences
- Experience of supervising and mentoring junior members of staff and pre-registration students
- Experience of providing clinical/professional leadership to junior members of staff
- Ability to lead and influence change

- Experience of working with regional/national networks
