We have an exciting opportunity for a full time 10 PA/40 hours per week Consultant Psychiatrist within East Surrey CMHT locality team. This is an opportunity to join a team, which is continuously embracing new ways of working, whilst putting people who use our services at the forefront. The post is based at our well established CMHTOP team in East Surrey, and you will be joining two full time Consultant Psychiatrists for Older People.

You will also be joining a multi-disciplinary team comprising of staff from different professional backgrounds and including administrative support. Research & development, auditing and quality improvement are strongly advocated, and we actively support involvement in QI and audit projects.

Main duties of the job

East Surrey CMHTOP receives referrals from local general practitioners per the current service specifications. The service provides assessment and treatment for functional illnesses and an assessment service for all patients aged over and under 65 with memory problems.The post holder will be responsible for referrals from named GPs/clinicians from Horley and is the lead consultant for the care homes in the East surrey CMHTOP.Patients can be seen in several settings, including their home, a modern, accessible clinic, or GP surgery. The service offers a comprehensive program of group and individual therapeutic interventions to cater for different levels of need.The team also offers specialist care home input to assess and manage challenging behaviour, including joint GP/frailty meetings & detailed formulations using the Newcastle model. There is additional support from specialist YOD Occupational Therapists for patients with Young Onset Dementia.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice.
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act(or within 6 to 12 months of the time of interview/assessment) or equivalent


Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills.


Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.


Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment


Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Risk Management
  • Knowledge of legislation, Department of Health Guidance and literature and its implications for clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including the contribution of others
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Evidence of active participation in Continuous Professional Development
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
  • Knowledge of psychiatric provision
  • Commitment to and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Experience in carrying out a range of audit projects.


Desirable

  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
  • Experience in management
  • Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentation in public, professional and academic settings
  • Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course.
  • Peer review or research publications
  • Published audit or research projects


Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning

Essential

  • Ability to take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care.
  • Ability to appraise own performance as a Speciality Doctor and reflect on development needs
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional groups under New Ways of Working
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.


Desirable

  • Ability to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
  • Reflected on the purpose of CPD undertaken
