Job title: Consultant Psychiatrist, Community Mental Health Hub, Milton Keynes

Full time: 40 Hours per week (10 PAs) + on call supplement

Part time: 20 hours per week (5 PA's) + on call supplement

The post offered is for 2 Consultant Psychiatrist in the Community Mental Health Hub covering patients from two of the Primary Care Networks in the Milton Keynes locality and is based at Westcroft Health Centre, 1 Savill Lane, Westcroft, Milton Keynes, MK4 4EN.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join our passionate and experienced medical workforce in this established team. The remit of The Hub is to provide care for patients who need secondary mental health support. The Hub caters for service users with all diagnostic categories and is a needs-led service. The post-holder will have Consultant and RC responsibility and will be supported by a first-class multi-disciplinary team.

Staff within the Hub are using Dialog+ to plan care and as part of our Think Family approach are actively engaged with families and carers. In line with the parity of esteem model the Hub supports the physical health management of patients with dedicated nurses for this purpose.

Main duties of the job

Duties of the Post:

The post-holder will provide clinical leadership and work in close partnership with the Hub's dedicated managers, a clinical lead psychologist, a clinical lead nurse and the senior practitioners for each pathway, to support the growth and development of the team and to meet the standards set by local and national frameworks.

Being part of a large and diverse London based Trust enables clinicians to access alternative learning and experience opportunities. There is a large faculty of consultants across mental health services in Milton Keynes and a comprehensive program of professional development, to which the successful candidate will have access. A personal budget for CPD is allocated to each consultant annually. There is also access to apply for CEA awards.

As a new consultant the post-holder will be offered a place on the Management and Leadership Course run by the Trust, in conjunction with Imperial College. The Trust also has a partnership with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI), providing an opportunity to gain knowledge in improvement science and enhance skills and confidence to understand healthcare systems and successfully implement change.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • Provide senior clinical advice and support to the daily triage, MDT and other regular clinical team meetings.
  • Ensure all referrals are triaged daily and responded to in a timely way.
  • Assess new patients and provide clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members.
  • Review complex needs patients to ensure appropriate care packages are put in place.
  • Actively link and develop a relationship with the Primary Care Network(s) to respond to their developing needs and support the move towards more integrated care.
  • Leadership role in the quality agenda: identifying areas for improvement and active engagement with QI.
  • To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with Consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status
  • Approved under S12
TRANSPORT Essential
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Excellent knowledge, skills and experience in crisis and acute mental health care management
  • Excellent clinical skills using biopsycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Excellent leadership and multidisciplinary working skills
  • Experience of using quality improvement methodology and service development
Desirable
  • Wide range of specialist and subspecialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING Essential
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Participated in continuous professional development
  • Participated in research or service evaluation.
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
  • Supervisory and management experience.
