We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to join our team as Chief X Information Officer (CXIO) and joint Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). The CXIO/CSO role is only open to Nursing and Allied Health registered professionals, with NHS Clinical Safety Practitioner Accreditation.

This dual role is essential for driving forward our Frontline Digitisation programme whilst ensuring the highest standards of clinical safety across our services. You will be a key leader in the strategic development of information systems and the integration of clinical safety within digital health technologies to ensure our services remain safe, effective and compliant with national standards. You will play a critical role in shaping the future of digital health within our organisation, ensuring that technology is harnessed effectively to deliver safe, high-quality patient care. You will be the bridge between clinical practice and digital innovation, leading the development and implementation of the Frontline Digitisation programme and digital strategy.

Main duties of the job

As a registered health professional, educated to Master's level with clinical safety officer certification the postholder will:
  • Oversee the deployment and optimisation of digital health technologies under the Frontline Digital Programme, ensuring they support safe, efficient, and patient-centred care.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and clinical teams on all aspects of clinical engagement and clinical safety, by working in partnership with Digital Services leadership, clinical colleagues, operational management and patient representatives to integrate clinical requirements and safety into the procurement, design and deployment of new digital health technologies.
  • Oversee the clinical risk management process for digital health technologies, ensuring compliance with DCB0129 and DCB0160 standards.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of clinical safety policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Undertake hazard workshops and work closely with clinical teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with clinical information systems.
  • Act as the organisation's lead for clinical safety incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring lessons learned are integrated into practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current professional registration with a regulatory body within Health or Social Care (e.g. Medical, Nursing, Allied Health Professional or Social Care)
  • NHS Clinical Safety Practitioner Accreditation
  • Educated to Master level or equivalent demonstrable experience in a specialist related subject / field


Desirable

  • Current Prince2 Practitioner or relevant project management qualification
  • Membership of APM/IPMA or equivalent
  • Lean Practitioner or equivalent
  • Relevant BCS / SFIA certification at Levels 6/7
  • Relevant health related management qualification


Training

Essential

  • Evidence of CPD education and training
  • Able to undertake further training and development


Desirable

  • Visio, MS Project (or other project management software)


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working at a senior management level [Band 8]
  • Relevant clinical experience (In depth knowledge of the practice)
  • Patient safety and Risk Management experience
  • Experience in leading and communicating complex information
  • Experience and knowledge of the IT procurement process
  • Experience of writing reports/papers/updates and presenting
  • Experience of clinical information systems
  • Ability to present complex solutions to non-technical audiences


Desirable

  • Recent relevant experience delivering transformational projects
  • significant experience of planning/managing a number of Programme / Projects
  • Experience of using Clinical Systems
  • Involvement in NHS change management programmes environment
