Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust seeks to appoint an enthusiastic full-time consultant psychiatrist to Dorset Ward, which is a 14-bed mixed sex acute psychiatric ward in The Chase Building at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The post is available as the current substantive consultant will be moving to another part of the service.

This post offers 10 Programmed Activities per week - 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and up to 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activity (SPA). The post holder will be required to provide clinical and professional leadership and to take part in related management activities. As a senior clinician, the post holder will have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.

Main duties of the job

Consultants in BEHMHT are encouraged to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching. This can include teaching of medical students and core trainees or contributions to the academic program. There is currently a Core Psychiatry Trainee (CY1) allocated to this team. The post holder would be encouraged to generate interest in recruiting more trainees to the team to facilitate an environment of ongoing learning, and would be supported to develop their competencies as a trainer including through their study leave and budget. Job responsibilities

Enfield Urgent Care Services consist of four in-patient wards (Dorset, Suffolk, Sussex and Devon) and the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT). The advertised post is for a consultant on Dorset ward - an acute mixed-sex ward of 14 beds. Sussex ward is the acute male ward with 17 beds whilst Suffolk is the acute female ward with 17 beds. Devon ward is a 12 bedded PICU (psychiatric intensive care ward for male patients). Additional male PICU beds are available on Coral ward in the Highgate Mental Health Centre. Female PICU beds are available on Ruby ward at the Highgate Mental Health Centre. Please see job description for more details.

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative
